If there are no buyers, then there will be no sellers! Stop buying grooms, this will automatically stop. May be you will remain unmarried for a lifetime; but the sacrifice is worth it. The issue is a simple one of demand and supply.

You know, it is the boy's mother who asks for dowry, not the boy or his father. So blame the lady for it.

By inheritance you are carrying away much more money than by way of dowry. Why do you at all want somebody else' money? Earn it yourself by hardwork.

Boys will be boys. Why expect anything else?

It is sad to know the ground reality about gender bias faced by women, even an exceptional one like Leila Seth. But consider the diverse and far reaching impact. Recent skirmish of a Delhi traffic police with a woman offender has led to such a situation now that no male traffic police is willing any more to stop any woman violating traffic rules.

Practical solution to this is beyond the reaches of law. We need to change our attitude.

The social menace of stalking of girls is so glorified by countless Bollywood films that the local goons feel they are impersonating the heroes by chasing & following helpless girls.

We followed the British blindly in many aspects. Even, clearing London Bar exam made her capable of practising law in India. But their social set up is very different than that of India. We scorn upon the boys mingling with the girls, whereas in western countries they encourage dating. In effect, boys and girls grow up here as aliens to each other and react in the way which leads to various evils and crimes.

We need to allow more freedom to boys and girls for healthy interaction between them to stop many social problems in future.

In Govt. offices, no one is interested to even ask a woman whether she works or not,as officers are under psychological pressure to be framed with molestation or ill treatment charge.

Re: Women must come forward to hit crime against women

First of all inherittance right is right step. Then,This is with WITH PERSONAL EXPEIRENCE. IF EVERY MOTHER, SISTER AND Mother inlaw and SISTER IN LAW COMES FORWARD THERE WILL BE NO DOMESTIC VOILENCE, UN CALLED FOR OR SILLY DIVORCES ETC. DOMESTIC VOILENCE, HARASSMENT OF WOMEN AND DIVORCES FOR SILLY AND FIRVOLOUS REASONS IS AIDED, ABETTED AND PERPETUATED BY ONLY AND ONLY MOTHERS, MOTHERS IN LAW, SISTERS AND SISTERS IN LAW. THIS IS VERY TRUE IN INDIAN CONTEXT AND IN THE CONTEXT OF TELUGU PEOPLE LIVING IN USA

Good to know, and fact too, but things have changed now, one side only favouring females in case of molestation and rape have initiated 50% fakes cases, Sharda Act has been mis-used in majority of cases. What to do in such situation, why these Pandits of law cannot distinct in between legal truth and actual truth and actual criminal is punished and in case of fake cases-the other party is punished heavily, as time and same respect can never come back.

I have seen people go broke on giving their daughter a proper marriage. Whats you say on that????? Say a poor father having two piece of land sold one for daughters marriage, then she comes and ask give me inharitence of the land !!! what happens if the guy had another daughter/son, then again whats your say on that ??? How will you solve the problem. & Its not always the groom side asks for money, many times its the daughter who wants a lavish marriage & gifts from father. Whats your say on that? Person paid lakhs of hard earned money for daughters education, then after marriage the daughter dosent feel like working so she stayes home by choice not by force (I have seen people doing this)!!! who will support the father???? Whats your say on that????? Speak up!!!

Leila Seth's objected to being introduced as a'woman Lawyer'. Now why is she talking of woman? In India nobody becomes a judge without pulling political strings. So much on her becoming a judge / Chief Justice.
In Most of women's complaints before the Crime Against Women Cells in the past 10 years the complainant is actually found to be paranoid Schizophrenia. This disorder starts in early adulthood (before marriage). But so far there is not a single case filed against the parents of a suffering girl.

Urban girls are of the view that a husband is a 'free servant' gifted by their parents, instead of property share.

Modern urban girls all the time want the husbands to arrange gifts for wife's brothers and parents. In my 35 years of my married life my wife has been demanding benefits for her siblings in pairs.
As for work, in a Scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the max talking, talking jobs of 3, 4 and 5 grades accounts for over 80% of the employed women, while over 80% of the 'doing jobs' fall on men. In the US there is substantial data available on gender ratio in employment. This shows that all the dangerous jobs are assigned to men and women have the easy ones. There too there is wrong argument that even private companies pay less for their women employees. But they are not able to explain why men are employed at a higher salaries by private sector by paying more. Why do women work for less? Any answers?
