Raising Awareness about Floaters
by Anjana Sen on Aug 01, 2015 01:25 PM  | Hide replies

This article is appreciated for increasing general awareness about floaters. I suggest that instead of 'Eye Problem' the occurrence could be described as 'Visual Symptom' since they are often harmless and almost everyone sees them against a blank white wall or against the sky. The sentence 'make no delay and visit a corneal specialist immediately' throws the layman off the right path because a corneal specialist is the wrong one to consult. It should read 'retinal specialist' though it is fine to consult any qualified ophthalmologist for initial examination to rule out potentially sight threatening conditions and advice on further investigation and management. Visual symptoms are often due to brain disorder as pointed out by Kiran Sutar and need to be taken seriously and as soon as possible. Also Nagaraju's comment about cataract surgery not solving the floater complaint is noteworthy, as these are not due to cataract, but changes in the vitreous. Once every effort is made to rule out sight-threatening progressive conditions, rest assured and get used to your floater. Soon it will stop bothering.

Excellent specialist opinion by Dr. Anjana Sen. The article read with your comment has clarified all doubts many like me may have, on this subject. I experienced the floaters for a few years and may be due to the vitamins and other nutritional support, it has now disappeared. Thanks for educating us on this.

Floaters in the eyes
by nagaraju on Jul 31, 2015 01:36 PM  | Hide replies

I have this problem for the past several years, may be more than a decade. Many ophthalmologists I contacted said it is because of aging and no useful treatment, surgery or therapy is available to remove these floaters. Recently I underwent laser surgery for cataract but that too did not solve this problem.

Beware it may be a brain stroke
by Kiran Sutar on Jul 29, 2015 02:44 PM  | Hide replies

Dear All,
I had lost half the vision in both my eyes.
For 4 days I had been visiting the eye surgeon. After 4 days, he told me to visit a neurologist.

And it turned out to be a BRAIN STROKE !!!
I was just 37 years at that time.
