Talking about R15 in 2015 is too late - It was launched almost 8 years ago and it is too long on the tooth. R15v2 did nothing to work on the engine output, but it did give a visual refresh.
The R15 engine is revvy, and all the power is available post 5000 RPM. This makes it terrible to ride in city and requiring the rider to rev really hard after speed breaks (coupled with frantic down shifting)
It is a great bike on tracks (despite its given limitations on power output) - The chassis is brilliant and the handling is telepathic.
I believe the author has R15 so as per him R15 changed the game for Yamaha in India but truth is that FZ16 is the one which did that for Yamaha...After FZ16 happened Bajaj Pulsar started feeling the heat of competition & still trying to cope with FZ globally popular design & ride....One can simply realize it by going on the street & feel the presence of FZ DNA..!!!
Though it is a mean machine, accessories aren't up to the mark. My son bought it about 18 months back, plastics and mirrors are of the worst quality. My RX100 had much better quality mirrors and plastic parts. I don't know why brand like Yamaha want to tarnish its own image by providing inferior quality parts. How much it will help the
In the Early to mid 80’s manufacturers launched bold new models like the RD350 , RX 100 ,Suzuki Shaolin , Kinetic Honda even the bajaj had good top speed and acceleration. Now the manufacturers have become lazy and simply copy each other spec to spec and give the customers the bare minimum. In fact , if you remove the labelling on all the scooters and bikes, park them side by side you will be hard pressed to identify which one is The last Product launched, which was different, was the kinetic blaze with a 165 cc engine.
