Layoff Lessons: Always be in touch with rival companies

Seems to be referring only to Software companies. But, there are layoffs in other companies as well. Layoffs only upto a certain age of the employee is manageable. The view here also seems to be the kind of mass retrenchment that recently happened in TCS. Layoffs could also be individual. Many times, not related to the performance of an individual.

Most important advise is to never work for a company. Always work for your salary. Never carry any sentiment about you employers. Just remember that you are worth only so long as you offer some value addition to the company. Sadly, result of your performance may not always be dependent on your own individual performance but linked to a whole lot of other issues like Company strategy, team performance etc. But, you as an individual may be taking the full blame.

You will be hired if:
1. You have a good long tail, and which you can wag.
2. Hiring Manager finds something common with you like Same College, Same Hometown, Language etc.
