When a biography of Jeffrey Archer titled "Stranger than fiction" was published, many of the bizarre events of the author's life had not yet taken place. The biography touches about his brief encounter with a prostitute which might have harmed his career as a member of parliament. There was also a mention of his father who cheated a number of people with bogus schemes and deserted his family when things became too hot to handle. Archer made use of these incidents in his earlier novels. He was a junior minster in Thatcher cabinet when he got involved with a prostitute again and lied about it in the parliament. Because of the lie he was sentenced to four years in jail. He used his jail time compiling diaries which he published after his release which sold in millions.
