It seems nowadays schools are ranked on basis of cost/year/student rather than quality of education..

When in 2009 Indian schools from TN & HP finished 72 , 73 & 74 among 74 participating with Shanghai at the top in all the three : mathematics, science and reading India chose to boycott. Thus in 2012 results while Shanghai is again at the top in all 3 India is no where to be seen. What more is there to say.

Extremely proud and happy to see my alma mater, La Martiniere for Boys, Calcutta in the list and even more to see our sister schools La Martiniere for Girls, Calcutta (at No.1 !) and La Martiniere Girls College, Lucknow in the top 10. Vive La Martiniere!!!!

Why not consider the schools in other cities as well?? Not boasting but Boys' High School and College Allahabad or MPVM Allahabad or CMS Lucknow can easily make it to the list.

Academics is not everything... A child needs all round development... Granted these schools are terribly expensive, but the average school that produces toppers every year would not be the ideal place for a young kid who would excel at sports or teach children important things like swimming, public speaking participating in group tasks, organizing a festival... That is where they make a difference.

Good list...

At least I now have the list where I certainly don't want to admit my kid.

Schools cannot teach survival skills in real world. That's where ones upbringing and family background plays an important role. Simple as it sounds.

The best example to prove my theory is Dr. Manmohan Singh - The most helpless and spineless PM in Indian history till date.

But hey, look at his academics, will ya?!!!

You are absolutely right Ravi, to survive in India you need chalupanti and an attitude of ends justify the means. Absolutely wrong place for a Cambridge educated PM. We deserve leaders like Modi & Mulayam and Lalloo! I guess this also explains the reasons for the mass migration of well educated indians to more ethical and civilized countries!

Ashok, it says a lot about your IQ that you choose to compare Modi with Mulayam and Laloo! And please stop trying to glorify and defend Manmohan Singh! It is universally acknowledged that he was one of the weakest ever PMs that India has ever had, no matter what his glorified qualifications!!! He himself has made shameless statements like 'coalition dharma' etc, which prove his spinelessness! Under his watch, the PMO was without doubt the weakest ever in a dubious arrangement where someone else held the remote control.
