HMT Watch¬¬¬
This watch was gifted to me at my wedding by my in-laws (Sh Baldev Singh, former MP, LS Jammu) on 24.01.1977, though purchase in 1976, manufactured in HMT factory at Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. Why I am writing this, because there was a time HMT watch was not only extensively popular but carried with it a degree of status, charm, fascination and attraction. People at large would feel proud to have it, gift it and show it off. In 1976 while in Germany during study visit at lunch meeting one of our colleague (a research fellow) purchased a new Switch Make watch for DM 2000 and he was appreciatingly showing it with all positivity, then I showed this watch to all of them that it casted us equivalent to 4 DM only and it is still working strong and with precision even after twenty years. All were taken back and sincerely spoke high of the quality of this watch, manufactured in India. At that point of time there was no limit to my happiness and I felt exalted and proud of our technology and Country. Such a beauty, whenever I use it, mostly during June to September (its body being that of stainless steel), I have the pleasant feeling of the moment when it was gifted to me, the most dependable. Why it has come to such an inglorious end of its innings perhaps, all those who value their possession will never come to compromise and accept the end of HMT watch.

Manual winding. Wish I had kept it. But then, you never know the value until you lose it.
Any of you have hmt automatic (non-quartz) watches?

Dear Friend, I have over 10 HMT manual winding and automatic watches collected over the last 38 years. I adore this brand. I also have over 60 other watches including a ROLEX and a few RADO's. I was lucky to find one watch maker by name SHAIKH TIMES in Belgaum, an erstwhile HMT dealer who still sells HMT watches. If you are keen to buy an HMT manual watch, he has two HMT JAYANT watches priced at Rs. 1200 each. Please send me an email if you are interested and I will send you his details and you could purchase one of this beauty from him.
