Learning to write and learning to speak are two very different propositions. How did you manage that on email?

Very unfortunate

All developed country have their own language. Single language reduces lots of extra burden on learning. But India though history says were a trend setter once, started a wrong direction of destructing a very strong language Sanskrit and preferred poor language like Hindi basically colloquy. Now after so many years when the destruction is complete they want to have own language- namely Sanskrit but actually Hindi. It is something like when the top of the rope is occupied go for the bottom. When we are dependant for lively hood to technology from foreign country knowing their language is always advantageous. But these people will never understand, once they win election they will create whole lots of disturbance 180 deg. apart with every regime change and we are helpless in the name of majority elected.

My knowing rudimentary German
by k v murthy on Nov 25, 2014 09:40 AM  | Hide replies

I went to the School of Foreign Languages, Min. of Def., New Delhi, way back in 1962. Our teacher there was aGerman native, who made us perfect in pronunciation, grammar, and speaking and writing in German. Even today, at the age of 78 yrs. I spend time everyday reading 3 text books and try not to forget it, and write to a few people whom I know in my own simple German expression. Strange of all,I read the first book in German in Gothic script.

Germans look down on Indian and their culture
by gttrr on Nov 25, 2014 06:47 AM

Sanskrit is an ancient language and the linguistic base of Indian culture. Learning Sanskrit will help understand other Indian languages far better and be rooted in our own culture. The grammatical structure of Sanskrit is such that it helps a child’s reasoning and analytical ability far better. Learning Sanskrit is not regressive and going back to primitive life style as some German press would have us believe. The Germans would like to save us from such a situation. (Read their press and watch their attitude) The German news paper “Rheinische Post” reported the story under the caption, “Indian Government will put the break on thecing German” with a photo of a very ugly and shabby class room from some where in remote India. Is this the true representation of a Kendriya Vidhyalaya? If the Germans want to promote their culture should it be at the cost of our own culture? In which German schools are any of Indian language taught? Mandarin is very popular in Germany and they promote it while anything Indian is looked down as from "Third World" and something from the land of snake charmers. What is the scope the language German? Spanish and French will be a better option as many from this language speaking countries do business with India. If Indian wants to surrender to German arrogance their shabby treatment of anything about India, learn their language as an optional one.
