Only in very small startups like less than 20 people you will get startup atmosphere.

Greater than 20, then usual big company culture comes into play.

Also, since startup is the latest fad, many 10 year old companies are calling themselves startup. Its a joke.

Whether you end up in a good job or not - it is more of luck.

However carefully you choose your job, you never know when the scenery changes - you don't have control.

In a startup be ready to stay without salary for months and at the end if it goes bust then the years spent is also lost. If you have a rich back ground then try a startup or else better be in a company where the salary is guaranteed at the end of the month.

negatives:

1. Unimaginable work pressure
2. No family life
3. No clear leave policies and no annual vacations. Even if happens, it is on a loss of pay basis)
4. You-do-all kind of attitude. It may go down to even cleaning dining tables, restrooms at times youself, when the maid takes off.
5. No prefessional work atmosphere. No timings. No email etiquttes, no attire restrictions, no weekend concept.
6. No privacy in your personal life. Your colleagues know it all to the extend of when you last had a headache.
7. No guaranteed pay.
