If Indian teens need to become truly aware of what life is for the great majority of their countryment, they ought to read Maxim Gorky's "Mother". Gorky did not have India in his lens when he wrote his masterpiece. But what he portrayed jives with what life is for about three-fourths of all Indians.

It is one of the most boring books from ancient India. Read Burton's translation or Mulk Raj Anand's illustrated edition (costs Rs.1800). If you can go beyond the first ten pages, you deserve a medal for endurance.
If anyone has even little bit of inkling towards spirituality, "Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master" is a must read. Written by Sri M, about mind boggling events of beyond...
