Skill Development for success of Make in India needs Mr.A.Banerji
by udayan mitter on May 14, 2015 12:02 PM

If the GOI is really serious about" Make in India" to be a successful long term venture, then the expertise of people like Arghya Banerji should immediately be sought by the HRD ministry in not only drawing up syllabus but also guiding primary school teachers for effective teaching as a long term investment towards skill development among the very young.

The correct way to learn
by sanjay gupta on May 14, 2015 11:32 AM

Even if we don\'t have such schools nearby it is still possible to teach our kids in the same manner in the current education system. I have followed this approach with both my kids and always encouraged them to understand the concepts rather than worry about marks and other things. I encourage them to self study and use whatever resources are available to clear the gaps. The results are visible. Both my kids have a good grasp of the subjects and are able to relate their knowledge to day to day life. As an offshoot the marks and grades are following automatically.

Roe learning

Sir I do agree with your point & abhor this rote learning which totally killed Indians' fertile brains, right from day one in school. But is this not the great GIFT OF SCHOLARS in NCERT (National Center for Education Research & Training)? I asked several questions in my Graduation but there was no answer. However, I differ with you about memorising about 1st, 2nd or 3rd war of Panipt. That is History how India has lost its glory because there was no unity among Hindu Kings & we have to learn from History the permanent damage India has suffered and suffered on account of no Unity.
This has been expressed by several scholars also and I am reproducing if any.

Why do you expect this man to tell PM or MP? Dont they read such important news? OR dont their IAS
Chamchas who are in Education Wing
dont read & convey to the Ministers? Oh I am sorry. I forgot the fact that if any IAS Officer reports/accepts that an ordinary person (non IAS) has better idea, it is considered National shame & insult to the whole IAS Community. NCERT has done lot of damage to the Education itself, starting from School level. I had an opportunity to look into US Primary School Mathematics & all I found is that if its copied in India, all they are doing is to confuse the Students & even the teachers. We were studying History & Geography (Civics included) which they dumped in Bay Of Bengal & introduced Social Studies. This has only produced innumerable anti Social elements, from School level itself, in our daily life & ultimately into National politics. If we want to improve our Education, the best place to start is Primary School itself & not at College level. Hope our new Government with the slogans of Achche Din etc., will seriously look into these basics. We need not wait that things will gradually improve. We have 100s of Secretaries/academicians at all levels & every dept can start improving within their respective fields.

You are right boss. But the problem that even our Ministers do not want such great people to be part of their team as they cant dance as they feel to keep their bosses happy. Also our HRD is not so well educated to act on such things as she is just their to keep happy RSS and their party.

current methods of learning
by PK Sagar on Nov 13, 2014 11:01 AM

I also belong to the old school where people learn analytically.Academically i was not brilliant but i was good at analysing any problem. I have tried to teach some of the younge children the art of remembering through logic, hoping that they would get over this habit of rote learning. Hiwever the it is taught and the way exams are conducted i failed in my attempts. I am nearing retirement and i myself being an IIT student want to voluntarily teach in some school so that children remember the basics forever like I do. I am scared though, since it will be so diametrically opposite to the present practices that parents might complain against me for spoiling their children's future. I would still like to give it a try.

AGAINST ROTE LEARNIG: LEVELFIELD SCHOOL, SURI, W.B.
by k v murthy on May 12, 2014 05:54 PM  | Hide replies

The British International School in HCMC, S.R.VIETNAM, is an example where students prepare projects on global warming, env.management etc., and visit factories to get first hand knowledge of these. They also visit countries in the neighbourhood. Students as young as 8-10 yrs. can be seen making presentations before distinguished invitees and parents.

Again rediff corrupt & dirty minds at work. How does it hurt anyone if I ask for the address of some school wherever on the planet? Do you think I am planning to plant some explosives in the School? If so I would not ask the address but have better ways to get it. It is confirmed that rediff moderators are the greatest corrupt morons.

Rote learning has many limitations. The only good thing about this is:it leads to perfection which may be necessary in some of our jobs.Otherwise rote learning should be discouraged. Many more efforts like that of Mr Banerjee are needed.

More schools like this in every city of India , is the need of the hour now .The system which is prevalent till date ,is totally obsolete and must be done away with . Holistic development of the child should be the motive rather than focusing on rote learning , getting a certain degree which is the current scenario
