Most Hiring Managers are looking for SLAVES.
More INCOMPETENT the Boss. More Insecure He is.

99% people become very Incompetent and Insecure by the time they reach Managerial Positions - they have Kids, Families, Holidays, Loans, Flats, Cars - THEY NEED TO KEEP THEIR JOBS AT ANY COST - Even at the cost of Keeping You a Slave.

This is especially True of India - where Buttering is the way to SLIP-UP. Not even getting into various local gangs that r formed by region and such.

Yep, they are hot in demand. YES men.
If you say no or question, you are not liked.
No wonder so many indian s/w companies are scraping the bottom as a result of this.

This is a good article well narrated, well judged and good for employees

This deserves a good applause and Rediff really took so much pain to understand the reality of job aspirants.

Lord K, the following is a good answer to give in response to the question you have posted ........

Company is of course very good but it is getting filled with uncouth North Indians who are as close to civilized behavior as planet Neptune is to the Sun!

These animals (and the metaphor is quite apt as you will see) have an innate herd mentality! They have formed groups within the various departments of the company.

Though the current and projected performance looks great to the honchos, the reality at operational level is very different. Professionalism is being replaced with "living" habits from back home by these animals.

Unless you are a North Indian, nobody will even listen to your suggestions.

At this rate, the projected phenomenal performance, financial or otherwise, will all go up in smoke, and I believe the time is right to jump ship either for a higher or similar position in a new company before that happens!

Besides, who wants to slip and fall after stepping into bovine droppings in the office once these animals have completed recreating their "living like it is back home" motif in the workplace!

Your observation about the workplace culture may be right, but you are wrong with the "North Indian" logic. In my last company, it was all South Indians who recreated their "living like it is back home" motif in the workplace!
So the real question is that who encourages such animals at work place? Its their seniors. Its a two way relationship of doing/giving a bjob and accepting a bjob. Bjob is the most important skill you need to grow in career. And FYI, Bjob could mean many things, one of which is butter job. ;-)

Hiring managers are mostly or only interested in numbers 1 (Numerical Analysis) and 4 (Humility) "things"!

A subordinate who is good with Numerical Analysis is an asset as he or she can do the tedious part of the work for which the manager can take full credit.

A humble subordinate is what all managers want so that he or she does not create trouble for the manager in anyway.

As for Numbers 2 (Creative Thinking) and 3 (Excellent communication skills), these should be exhibited by the subordinate after carefully and thoroughly gauging the work culture and nature of business in his or her place of employment!

If the subordinate, works in Advertising, then creative thinking and excellent communication skills are needed and should be exhibited by him or her.

But if subordinate works in traditional organizations like Indian Railways which is filled with uncouth people from UP and Bihar, subordinate will need to drastically dial down his or her creative thinking and excellent communication skills as these make them look smarter than these animals from UP and Bihar!

Bottom line is that subordinates need to be careful about how they present themselves and their skills depending on the kind of work place they work in!

This is a good article and rediff should be encouraged to publish more such articles. Communication skills in the broader sense also include interpersonal skills that is an important skill to adopt in an organization. Have seen a few guys succeed even without sufficient job knowledge sail through with subtle interpersonal and communication skill
Well some may term it as a political skill but it's ok to administer in limited dosage if it pays. Why not?

You are right about political skills but these skills are usually backed up with having political guardians or support from political G0dfathers.

If anyone thinks they can play the political game solo, there are in for a very rude surprise down the line!

So what is our puppet PM and nominal Sardarji Man Mo Hen Sing? The lord of India?

He is the worst spineless employee in India!

Is he what people should emulate?!

Why do you get angry now?

Where is this disregard for "direction" when you animals from UP and Bihar form "groups" in your companies and mess everything up?!

Is this what future generations need to learn from you?!
