How many of these colleges or universities admit students with real interests in academics and aptitude and not on marks? How many of them are willing to admit students with lesser marks and real aptitude? Can a student from ordinary place or background get admission there? How many of these institutes can admit students with poor grades and churn them out with high academic achievements? Then only the institutes can be termed as great.
Only Institutes of Technology (IITs) at Delhi and Mumbai are among top 50. What our universities and colleges are doing, although in terms of Ph. D production universities must be much ahead of IITs?. For better ranking of Indian Universities/colleges, I think UGC has to change its policies. Mere Ph. D production is not enough, original publications are required. UGC should give incentives to good researchers of HE by keeping them in all acdemic bodies and poor performers should be punished/ demoted. A.Kar,
This is the result of political interference in the education system. You can open eight IIT in one day and make the intake of students in the existing IIT double. But you can not make infrastructure ready in one day and you can not recruit teaching staff in even five years. Resulting except IIT Hyderabad all the remaining 15 IITs have less than half the teaching strength required as per the UGC norms. This will directly results the out put of the institute. This is the reason we are at bottom of the list.
