Very Poor Article. It just the clich� that college is a place for fun and not for any serious academic pursuits and all colleges are in Punjab. No wonder a majority of gradates are un fit for employment. This is what happens when fee for Arts/Science/Commerce is a paltry 5000 a year. Let the fee be increased to a lakh a year and see how seriously people start taking college and not compare it to some day time club where we go to hang out with an assortment of people.This is true today as friendships are fleeting are based on convenience

Media and retail marketing have made a mockery of education by portraying places of learning as places of recreation, vices and extra curricular activities!
Instead of hiking the fees across the board, the government should institute scholarship systems under which it "sponsors" a fixed number of merit based seats with subsidized fees for serious students who get high percentage of marks while all other students pay very high fees like you have suggested!
