It has nothing to do with Mylapore Guys... but none of the the traditional south indian bramin food does not include garlic in general ... but onions Yes... specifically depending on the kind of dishes

The reason for brahmins not using onion / garlic is traditional. most properties of garlic is available in asafoetida that they use frequently. Also the pungent onion will drop some memory power and increase distractions in life. Onion has that quality. Also these onion and garlic can soften the tongue so that there won't be clarity while inciting their vedas. These also changes the body odor which distracts the focus and sanctity of any home, the brahmis believes.

also to add to the property of onion, it can induce a power of rebel inside you. it makes you to react to things before you apply your mind. this is evident in north india where there is more communalism, bandhs, street violence... etc.

Impressed, except for Veppila Katti

I am totally impressed with Chitra Vishwanathan Mami from Mylapore - for not just her cooking skills but her knowledge of technology. At 75, she's someone to be emulated. I so wish there were more like her. Hope to meet you in person when next time at Chennai Mami. Hats off to you!
As for Veppila Katti, I am sure Chitvish knows that it's made of a kind of citrus leaves. Calling them neem leaves is most definitely an editorial mistake. Please verify and make the correction. :)

Totally impressed with Chitvish. Amazing how the 75-year-old has taken to technology. I wish there were more like her. I think Veppila Katti has been misinterpreted and I don\'t think Chitvish could be wrong. There\'s some mistake while editing. Please correct it. Some kind of citrus leaves are used for it, not neem.
