Tipping is a cultural thing

It is funny these people look west to teach them manners. Around 10% is normal in US, where as Japanese don't tip at all. Indians, may be 2% to 5%, at max. If we tip 10%, waiters will end up earning more than his restaurant manager, a doctor in govt. service and IAS officer. Really. That is the wage structure and cost of food in India. Nobody want to make such inbalance, tip is supposed to compliment the low salary, not to increase it by 5 times.

In US, the lowest hourly rate is around 10 USD (600 RS) which more than the daily salary for most Indian low end workers. Also, restaurants see more footfall here, especially those are not high end. If a person attend 20 tables a day, spending 1000 rs each and get 10% tip, he will ear 2000 Rs per day, which is 3-4 times his daily wage, where as it will be like 30%-40% of daily wage in US. So please before advocating manners you learned from west, use a bit of brain if there is any.
