Telugu people celebrate the festival over three days. First day (Bhogi) the front yards are decorated with rangoli and family gathers around a fire. Girls dance around the pumpkin flower decorations in the front yard. Children of the family are blessed by a shower of berries mixed with coins. Second day, (Sankranthi) belongs to men, who fly kites or watch cock fights. Third day (kanumu), decorated oxen are taken out in procession. Cock fights where crores of rupees change hands are now banned, but nobody cares a hoot for the law.
