Self reliance is best
by crazedcat on Dec 13, 2014 10:54 AM  | Hide replies

Not just women, but even men, should simply learn basic self defense tactics, and train to use spray, taser, illegal gun or whatever weapon is practically available to us. I don't believe in the concept of relying on other people for one's own protection. There are many many reasons why it may turn out to be impractical. As for our police and justice system, we all know they are a total failure, so even less value in relying on them.

I agree. Exactly. That's what I tried to suggest elsewhere also but another male wrote in reply that I am advising women not men.

It's not a advise. Basically, you can everything in your control. But ultimately when such a situation comes the victim and the rapist are alone and not infront of someone who can do something. What then?

All revolutionary changes have come by standing up for yourself and fighting.

How can females expect that low class uneducated loafer people can be treated or changed?

That's just waiting for change to happen and sitting in the corner.

As it is we are a sexually repressed society. If prostitution was legalized and managed, it may be possible to reduce these rape cases from occuring.

Best useful preparation is regular assault practice as defender and attacker, animations, and secretly carrying many surprise weapons like pointed objects, devices to make sound, light, high voltage, smell, chemical pain, etc..

Knowledge of subject of assaults on women is very immature and haphazard. It is not recognized as a subject for study and research. There is no classification of assault phenomena. Attention is on morality alone, how shocking, how bad, how backward, how unfair, someone should do something, and other verbal activities not leading to useful knowledge.

There is no course on assault, no animations of useful preparations, no popular movement to search solutions, no curiosity in women. Widespread ignorance helps offenders.

It requires theoretical and practical development and a lot of systematic experimentation. Ignorant solutions are possible in some cases but cannot be the general solution.

well it is now or never.i remember my father going out in the evening and without fail informing mother/us where he would be.today it is one thing i remember utmost when i read the newspapers.then it was fun later it was freedom but after a period it was realization you are not only protecting yourself but helping your dear and near ones by the knowledge of your whereabouts. those days there was no mobile to contact in an emergent situation. telephones were rare.today we talk of independence of self.without knowing or remembering the true meaning of independence.i believe if we take it as in-dependence i.e. in depending upon our near and dear the society we move forward with the knowledge of security.when we say that our own parents are restraining us they are old fashioned should we expect the unknown to act like our angel.we can write tons of paper but it is of no use.either we think of our near and dear in-dependency or we charter our path all alone feeling independent and start crying when a mishap happens.we should remember we were indians we are indians we will be indians.

find it uncool or like we are trying to control them if we ask to know their time of returning, mode and company of travel, someone elses number incase they are unreachable.

it's tough to make the girls understand these days. they think freedom means to be remain outside of house without having to inform.

it's become sad :/

I think you ( and other Indian men ) need to learn self control. Freedom for Indian girls should mean the same thing as Indian boys/ men . FYI ,The constitution grants us the same rights.

And what exactly does it mean? To stop telling about your whereabouts to your family?

What does that have to do with freedom? Family trying to protect you?

You just proved me right by saying what you did.

Read again dear feminist. Did I mention anything about stopping from using your freedom.

This is the attitude because of which girls are hard to protect. They make it hard for us. Take care of yourselves then.

And for your information, I always keep my parents informed. Even if I am half an hour late. They know my friends contact numbers, whom I am out with, my route and mode of travel also.

It's not written in the constitution that I have to do this. But i do this because I dont want them worried and its a two way relationship.

If you want absolute freedom. Then you should live alone, pay for everything yourself and not complain to anyone because you chose the same for yourself.

If I, a male, were to say I was going for a walk alone at 11 PM in a desolate locality and demand I should not be robbed or mugged because robbers need to learn self control, I'd be laughed out of every room in India.

And the lady "am" by saying I and other indian men should learn self control has basically grouped everyone as a _rapist_ and of a _criminal_mindset. What_a_stupid_person.
