Many Indians when go abroad for the first time in life allow their fat_ugly wife to travel in jeans_and_t_shirts.They are ashamed to let them travel in sarees!
But I have found out that foreigners are more impressed with our_sarees and like to take photos with a saree_clad Indian_woman.
If you meet anybody from India ask him "What Is Your Caste?" If he answers it, then you're doomed. Because he has already injected Cancer into your Country. Caste is like Cancer. It cannot be Cured. It has to be Cut-Off.

You forgot to say the following:
with a big open mouth "Which part of India you are ?"
You replied " Maharashtra"
His smile shrinks "Oh,I am from Bengal"
Now,you reply "I am from Bengal"
His mouth becomes more open" Kolkata?"
You reply,no,Asansol
His moth becomes more bigger ,oh we are so near,I am from Burdwan
Then you start talking of a particular Mishti_shop,particular chai_adda
continue,continues,suddenly your voice becomes big
some goras_stare at you
then you come back to your normal facial expression
You can write a lot on this topic ;)
If he is a fellow_muslim,you can try to be secular and tell,I go to my muslim_friend's house on every_eid,his mother makes very testi_khir_and_biriyani,I had some weakness for his sister_but you know our conservative family_blah_blah
Actually,it is not like the above now a days.Even if two Indians meet each other, they make their faces so big in ahankar_false_pride and behave as if not seing another fellow country man and try to speak in English_with half_baked vocabulary with his non_english understanding wife.

Caste (like, Vaidhnavite, Kayastha, Khhatri, ... ) ,like sect ( Syrian Catholic/Protestant/Roman Catholic/Presbyterian/.... .... ... ) Shia/Sunni/Wahabi/ Salafi/ Sufi/ ... ), Linguistic stereotype (Bengali/Tamil/ Gujarati/ Kannadiga/ .... ... ) or other categories can increase/decrease esteem of the asked in the asker's eye, hamper/help social interaction, whether it is a constructive or obstructive factor depends on the individual's character or his/her aim in such interaction. For mere curiosity, too, it is important to seek this info or use it in any way with due caution and intelligence as well as consideration for fellowme's degree of sensitivity, which may not be known to begin with. Castes, sects, or other categorization should be understood to arise from the particular attitudes associated with the specific labels and not in a senseless vacuum arising from inheritance.
