1. Wipro and Infosys would have remained Very Small unknown entities IF NOT FOR Y2K bug fixing Projects. THAT was the stepping stone.

2. There is close to ZERO Innovation in these companies, they are pretty much Billing Based BPO Style even in IT.

3. If you work in Wipro or Infosys - you will get a cute girl for marriage, and any landlord will give you house for rent.

4. But they are big now, pay taxes, and give employment to lakhs.

5. Why the same level of success was not achieved by WIPRO in their BULB and DALDA business - if they are so good?

by hyd on Apr 08, 2014 10:44 AM  | Hide replies

why do you need IIM graduates for a company 100 times smaller then Lever. You could have hired a experienced person and get the job done much better.

VERY WELL SAID. IN WEEPR0, HR TERMIN@TES PEOPLE ON PETTY GROUNDS... SUCH AS BEING NON-BILLABLE FOR 2 MONTHS, ESP SENIORS WHO ARE NOT WANTED AS FRESHERS ARE PREFERRED FOR BETTER OPERATING MARGINS.

NO WONDER THE HR HAVE SUCH A SEVERE INFERIORITY COMPLEX.

IF YOU GET A BAD RATING IN THIS COMPANY, NO HIKES AND PROMOTION THAT YEAR AND NO ONSITE FOR 2 YEARS...

OTHERS GET HIKES 2-3% ONLY.

ZERO INNOVATION. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT INNOVATION IS THE CHAIRMAN TALKING ABOUT? SAP, ORACLE, LINUX, WINDOWS, OS....???????

This is the problem with Indian software industry leaders.
by aaro on Apr 08, 2014 08:21 AM  | Hide replies

Listen to him and what he is really saying:

"My experience suggests that this is quite wrong. Innovation, big-ideas, being different, all have a place -- and sometimes can be very important."

>>> So Innovation, Ideas, intellectual capital etc. are.. oh maybe a little important. very little, RIGHT?

>>> Sure in HIS experience. That's the key. The company he runs is a body shop. They have ZERO intellectual capital. They have no respect for originality. Therefore in his experience, they have no need for creativity, innovation, big ideas. TRUE!!.

"The three ordinary things that we often don't pay enough attention to, but which I believe are the drivers of all success are: hard-work, perseverance and basic honesty."

Sure Sure. That's exactly what they need. A bunch of lower-middle-class kids slogging on. Hard work. Billing hours. Money, mostly dollars and euros pouring in.

Who needs creativity? Innovation? Big ideas?? Leave them to the amrus. Desi success is in slogging, 'hard work', and 'honesty' so that the crooked boss can keep milking you for ever.

Very well said (and i don't say this to all & sundry)!

According to him, to form new gen companies like Twitter etc. the key ingredient is 'hard work' & not innovation! Ha!

Also, i come from a place near to Surpur. In the bal mela that he talked about - the assumption/understanding that the younger kid tagged along for the meal because he had nothing to eat is wrong. I have seen that NOBODY ever sleeps on an empty stomach and they can very easily afford all the basic stuff. About 20% have even been getting higher education. In fact, now, they have become quite useless because of the great Congress's MGNREGA & get money without actually working. Bottom line - that kid didn't come there because he had nothing to eat at home.

A great message during the graduation day! Let all the new graduates keep in mind that business lies in simplicity and not in luxury and show.
Best of luck to the new class of ISB
