Rediff should have given some material on 'Shakti Peethas' in India. Instead author has some material available with him. Mind you, there are known 4 temples in Mharashtra known as 3 1/2 Shakti Peethas. Ther's is no mention of any of them. Out of these Shakti peethas, Mahalaxmi at Kolhapur is worshipped by people all over India, along with Shri Balaji of Tirupathi, as she is considered to be his wife & Darshan of Shri Balaji is said to be incomplete without darshan of Shi Mahalaxmi at Kolhapur. Other deities are, Shri Tulaja Bhavani at Sholapur - which was deity of Shivali Maharaj
Shri Renuka Devi of Mahur (Naded - Nagpur road link)
Shri Saptashringi near Nasik - killer of Mahishasur is considered to be the half Shakti Peeth.
As already pointed out by others, the omission of the 12th century Chamundi temple(Mysore)is inexplicable. The Bhadrakali temple at Warangal is believed to have been constructed in 625 AD but remained in a state of neglect up to 1950. The government took over its administration some three decades later and regulates the income and expenses. The devotees visit the structure which is of modern construction and overshadows the original shrine.
1. Legend is in this Rock the Devi looks side ways, the direction in which she looks houses the richest of India !! 2. And not to mention Mahalaxmi from Dhanu, whose pujari is chosen from local Adivasi family, while the temple is on plain ground the devi lives at the top of the mountain which is plain straight rock, yet to be captured by mountainers, althouhg once in a year the Pujari can climb it all alone to change the flag of the devi. Last but not the least: 3) Naani Mandir from Baluchistan (please mention it)
