Bad Maintenance

Nature trail of IIT Bombay - That's funny.

It is one of the worse maintained campus' in the world. They call it a world class institute, and for all the huge funds they get, they don't care to maintain the campus. The hostels and mess are similar to RECs (now NITs). They have not been painted for several years. I saw Bicycle stands with lot of bicycles mangled and rusting for 20 years.
Students, are so used to taking 'short-cuts' that some walking pavements have never been used for decades.

Though we call it world class for the bookish education, we being Indians, have a very low standard of living expectation from ourselves.

And so, we just 'accept' bad maintenance and unhygienic conditions as normal. This allows administrators to seek funds specifically for 'campus maintenance', and swindle the money because nobody is going to question if the campus is not maintained.

So, for our living conditions to change, firstly we need to mindset, and our expectations.

Hope the IIT Bombay students start questioning the way the campus is maintained.

This was a nice news . During 1985 , when I spent few months , I had walked a lot with my Alex . It used to be very good and the lake was much bigger . We even went to Nitiee campus by walking . There used be a huge BMC water pipe ( I think outside IIT area ?) .....
