avoid mostly refined foods like sugar, maida, refined veg oils (all are bad) and reduce non-veg and dairy and fish to only once a month or less

your main foods are salad, fruit, vegetable, nuts in moderation

Very nice and simply written article by Shameen Akhtar. The crux of maintaining stable blood sugar levels is to do some exercise, even walking daily for 20-30 minutes and treat life as it comes. Stress can be an accelerator and a sure-shot killer, so it makes no sense worrying about everything. You cannot control stimuli as a human being, but can definitely control responses to stimuli, always remember.
Eat healthy, exercise and enjoy the simple pleasures of life, as the Creator meant us all to !

"Eat healthy, exercise and enjoy the simple pleasures of life, as the Creator meant us all to!"

And be treated as a failure by their peers?!

No way!

Indians rather get this disease than be deemed as failures and be ridiculed by their peers!

Diabetes is a lifestyle disease.

You get it because .......

You try to find comfort and solutions to your problems in food by eating it like there is no tomorrow!

You don't exercise because it is Indian mentality to think it is inferior or a sign of failure to be fit after a certain age!

You don't sleep well because you are up most of the nights scheming against your co-workers or boss or worrying about how you are going to keep up with Joneses with new gadgets clothes, toys and foreign vacations!

You continue to behave like you are in your 20s when you are twice as old or older and your system disagrees with nonsense like "age is just a number"!

Diabetes is a very serious disease. It can kill you slowly and painfully!

So instead of "celebrating" it for one day in a year, change your lifestyle or prepare to die slowly and painfully!

Congrats ! You have expressed your views very effectively and directly. But for those who are detected diabetes recently should not tensed up too much ,as well such readers can plan better strategy with the 4 pillars of this most popular disease in the of the priorities & significance attached to these issues.
1 DIET .... Review your food pattern both quality and quantity includes the forms of solid and liquids and that of time and frequencies.
2 EXERCISES... Adoptable and suitable to your age body structure with consistent practice
3 EDUCATION... Varied impacts that cause and complicate over a period of time on both mind and mind...
4 MEDICATION..... Periodical review of medicines intake and alternate nature therapy etc. with regular quality laboratory checks...
I am diabetic for over 25 years and i have gone through with this friend as a part of my system. I am now 60 years. There are lot of issues to be told under each head as described by me above but let me continue later depending other readers experiences/ responses.

Don't sugar coat reality, A S K M!

Diabetes is incurable!

Once you get it, you are doomed!

What you are suggesting is an alternate and restrictive lifestyle!

It is like being a prisoner in an invisible prison!

Doctors say Take all medicines regularly, it will control the sugar and but it also lands you at kidney failure. Also every doctor/lab has different FBS/PPBS standards. Nobody knows how the standards got fixed in the first place. I have 497 PPBS and the lab guy said how come you are walking. What is the truth only the mmoney makers can tell
