Good read

Thanks to the author and Rediff for bringing out this excellent article. I think history takes a backseat in out schools now a days which is unfortunate. Science and technology get the attention. However one needs to realize that without learning history and arts even a scientific mind is not properly matured and productive.

Hi Abhik,

Thanks for the appreciation.

You are right. After going through the usual science and engg route even I have realised that History indeed is beautiful. But then the books and the teaching methods also need to change for children to take interest. I think for engg students subjects like History, Arts should be offered as optionals.

Aihole - the place of learning
by venkat hs on May 28, 2013 11:45 AM

Aihole literally means the learned/the place of learning ... we have been to this place some months back on our trip to Badami, Pattadakal ... Every temple we visit, we are amazed with the architectural splendor, the intricacy of carving, the sheer size ... we are lost for hours watching ... but it's very very sad to see ... to come across many places where they are destroyed ... wantonly destroyed and not just because of the ravages of time ... it is at that time one feels bad ... and to correct that wrong ...

Indian History

Dear Mr. N Sigh,
please try to print in a book format all your articles written before. Indian history is very rich and what is remaining has to be protected/guarded at any cost. I have visited some of the places but the roads and facilities are very poor, hope they have improved now. The present population has to accept good or bad in the past without any prejudice.

"Present population has to accept good or bad in the past, without any prejudice". Well said. Acceptance and acknowledgement of the past from all quarters would go a long way.

Hi Jameel,

Thanks for your continued appreciation. Yes we all our responsible for protection of our heritage. There are lot of people who are actually doing it by raising awareness among our children and communities living in the neighborhood of the monuments. I write and speak to local ASI circles if I see something good or bad during my visits.

Yes we cannot change our history; but we can write our own history starting today.

I do hope with your wishes I will be able to write my book!

Why do you pull tamil nadu unnecessarily in this topic. you should not degrade any community while praising ours. Just a thought.
