One of the major reason for Samsung's success is that it is probably the ONLY quality brand in the market that has a huge array of smartphones to practically suit every budget. For a jump of may be 2 to 3 K - you will get another model. Where as for brands like hTC or Nokia - going for a higher model does feel the pinch in your wallet.
Another plus for Samsung is they know how to market their products properly. S4 was formally launched and made available to consumers almost simultaneously. Where as its main rival (hTC One) was launched with much fanfare in the month of February - but yet to see light of the day in most parts of the globe!
The end result is people who are not hTC fans - have gone for S4...

the most significant point was missed out !!! wtf ?

samsung makes their hardware themselves. they make bulk of their cutting edge components which they introduce themselves in their devices first. AMOLED screen for example which is on the galaxy S4.

they make the NAND/RAM (and supply it to others), they make their own Exynos SoC, stylus etc. samsung relies on sony for the imaging system, however, for bulk of the components which they show off they do it themselves.

look at how badly sony timed their xperia Z and lost out in the processor race. barely two months after the Z came out - samsung came up with their octo-core chip and killed the s4pro in mere words. companies like sony are reduced to playing the "second class flagship" game.

only two companies own the entire stack apple and to a lesser extent samsung, because they rely on android. also, both companies have billion dollar budgets - so its pretty apparent who's winning

The only differnce of this "Octacore" is that only 4 cores work at a time. So it is not exactly an Octacore performance....

Having own component manufacturing cannot be the success reason. Many have their own but they are not successful. Haha

The most significant "P" in its marketing strategy is its POSITIONING statement(s). Here's why it is :

1. The letter "S" is representative of what Samsung thinks the phone embodies ( "S" signifies 'Super Smart' given only to flagship devices) It is also an excellent example of BRANDING taught in Management Schools.
2. Samsung conducts "Extended Brainstorm & Evaluation Process" (for 5 to 7 weeks) in SIX phases to select a name.
3. The letters given to the phones are significant. "W" means WONDER;(Phone balanced between Style & Performance); "Y" means YOUNG (Phone is chiefly intended to Emerging Markets & Young Audience); "M" means Magical (High Performance with Economic Price Front); "R" means ROYAL/REFINED (Only Premium Category Models);
4. There are spin-offs & variants too : S Blaze; S Aviator; S Relay 4G; - Galaxy Vibrant; Galaxy Mesmerise; Galaxy Indulge; Galaxy Fascinate; Galaxy Epic; for diffeerent markets when "S" was first released. All after going through RIGOROUS process of NAMING (Positioning) mentioned earlier.
5. Naming of Samsung phones goes through stringent Legal Reviews. Also, cultural & religious meanings of letters/names in other countries/societies evaluated thoroughly while POSITIONING.
6. Hence, POSITIONING is a key feature of its MARKETING STRATEGY.
7. Samsung won "International Design Excellence Award" from Industrial

names can do only so much, its the product proposition that is so important. samsung has timed its product right, they have a great product with the latest and greatest technology, they promoted it right, and they also pushed the limits - eg: super sized note / different sized tablets.

The samsung ad about S4 and the wife complaining about infidelity; is such an irritating - ear jarring ad,with a bad acting model - no wonder Apple does not use ads!

All that they can do is copy. Samsung is devoid of originality and creativity. Good phone for those that ape others.

samung dual sim started the trend
by vinay on May 20, 2013 12:10 AM

samsung dual sim started the trend in their favour. when nokia was adamant in not tarting dual sim mobiles, samsung started dual sim series. n certain samsung series phones r better than even those chinese or ind brand phones with dual sim dual 'active' facility (instead of dual 'standby' in most phones).
i think samsung continue n upgrade such dual active series.

Samsung and Google are doing a great job.
by radkesh thiwari on May 19, 2013 01:24 PM

I am a fan of Apple products but I never liked their marketing strategies. The way they Apple was trying to monopolize the business, the way it used to treat and undermine the potential of countries like India, the way they would never bow and relax pricing and many more. I am happy that Samsung and Google have shown the doors to Apple and are helping in keeping the competition healthy and alive.
