The problem with the Card Protection Plan (CPP) is that all four cards get blocked if you lose only one. So if you lose one card and report it, all your cards are rendered useless - when you need them most! Separate CPPs entail separate charges! Wish there was a selective CPP!
(1) record the CVV number of the card in a secure place (or two) and erase the CVV number on the card by scratching it and then overwriting a permanent marker. This will prevent unauthorised online use. (2) Keep a copy of the card number(s) and help-line number(s) separately so that you can call the banks and hot-list the card(s) to prevent physical use at merchant outlets.
WE should avoid keeping all cards together in one wallet.Should move around only with one or two.I feel debit cards with ATM PIn are much safer such as those issued by SBI.
All credit cards are issued by default with an ATM PIN for cash withdrawl. The banks need to just ask the card user to key in this PIN as an added authorisation and then only approve the transaction. I am surprised, why such a simple step cannot be incorporated by banks issuing credit cards ? Further if the PIN is keyed in wrongly, the card should be blocked for all further transactions. This will at the first instance, definitely prevent the card being used fraudentally.
