No was ready to marry her. Finally got over aged experienced man who is believing himself as son of Nawab but dancing on the floor for the bread and butter. That's harsh reality.. Now she is aunty...of indian youths
pre 1991 days. cinema and cricket used to be the sole entertainments for every household. people used to throng theaters as if there is no entertainment at home, which is true. in came globalization in 1991. it came along with western lifestyles, especially, the baba sehgal show and the Mtv. remo fernandes started the path breaking pepsi ad whose picturisation was totally new to us at that time. in came 1994, sushu won the Miss universe. and then we hosted world peagent show in 1996 in bangalore. things didnt look the same after those events. every one does the walk the ramp these days. girls are wandering in mini skirts. welcome to the new age india. the transformation to western culture has come with a rider, the totally neglected centuries old indian culture!!!!!!

So? This Indian culture you are so nostalgic about comes with a lot of caveats - dowry, dowry deaths, enslavement of women, lack of personal freedom, everpresent eveteasing, harassment of women, purposeless yoth (no jobs - only hope was a govt job whcih might get you a house in middle age). etc.
So stop praising this INDIAN culture as the one and only answer for everything. Frankly,things started looking good for the younger generation ONLY after some western-culture jobs and western culture education became accessible to the youth.

even the 'centuries old' part had enough 'riders' as you put it: caste system, Sati, 600 kingdoms and kings with every weird fetish imainaginable, lack of education, access to science, etc.
So, stop being always so ostalgic and see what you can do with keeping up with the world. Having less people below poverty line is not a bad idea you know. Also, whayt's wrong if a girl wears a mini skirt? It's a problem only if some guys feel like molesting her.

We have to leave learn out bad things and take good things from every where and at the same time retain good things which are already with us rather than discarding our own self because of few bad things.
