Some of the best dosas I have had are those made in the street side eateries in Kerala. My favorite combination is dosa with beef fry (very spicy). Those not into beef can go for lamb/goat.
That is one of the greatest pleasures of life. Driving through Kerala enjoying the salubrious sights, and then stopping at some lush village to help yourself to the above cuisine.
If possible, order these dishes, and take them with you on a houseboat ride through Kerala's backwaters that meanders through villages. Often times the boat handler also doubles up as your cook, and he stops fishing boats so you can order freshly caught seafood, which the boat attendant cooks for you while you take in the sights.
Love these little thrills of Kerala, and its cuisine.

Sam, you are right. You mentioned the drive, lush villages, backwaters, boat ride and great food. But how could you forget a bottle of the choicest drink to boot? That completes the deal!
