Tell me how women are different than men in this regard? Will any man forsake his rights? Why do you want your wife to bring dowry in the first place? Separation is an accident and eventuality and law will take course. As for ancestral property, its the right of both sons and daughters, so no questions there!

Charity Begins at home

So please start implementing the same in your home before giving lectures. Womens are not treated badly in society but its their inferiority complex which makes them unsecure.

You are mistaken. It takes a while for women to come out of the complex they were fed with for generations by the kind "men" of our society. Also its not true that women are treated well everywhere. Go to any rural India and you will know how women are treated still.

It will take ages before sizeable Indian women ranks equal to someone in western countries in terms of rights, equality and empowerment. Surely not for the next two generations.

Why women needs to work late
by Face Dude on Mar 10, 2013 08:48 PM

Here is why women need to stay out late after 8 PM:
1) Increasingly women are educated and they would like to stand on their legs
2) Increasingly women realize the importance of being financially succesful in their life and career
3) Increasingly women realize that to be successful they have to work as much or more than men do, which means staying back late at night if it so called for
4) We will take the country backward if we call for all women to stay indoors after 8:00 PM. That will be the height of stupidity.
5) As a nation we will fail in our duty if we say that Indian women cannot walk on roads safely after 8 PM. In fact safety for both men and women walking alone in night should be just the same. No special precautons needed for women in a empowered society like in western countries.

myth and facts
by hasile fisile on Mar 10, 2013 04:49 PM  | Hide replies

i disagree with author on many things. female infanticide, dowry, etc are not new...they have been there for many decades. fact is, these problems are on decline with women empowerment.

ultimately, a lot of this depends on the woman also. she shouldn't allow herself to be exploited and then complain about exploitation. if there are women who complain about dowry, why do they forget that the bride agreed to terms and conditions initially...when she could have simply said no to the groom's family at first.

Barring sexual crimes, both men and women are equally unsafe. Every "expert" is giving their opinion on this, let me add my 2 cents....the myth and fact of these crimes taken from various websites and real life incidents.

MYTH:- Criminals pick women who dress inappropriately.
FACT: Criminal will pick the most accessible woman. If a woman is dressed "inappropriately" the criminal might think that she "deserves" to be "punished" for being a "loose woman"....but he might just as well commit the crime against a "decently dressed" woman, if she's more accessible.

MYTH: Woman's clothing "arouses" a man, that's what leads to the crime.
FACT: Madness takes over the criminal and he sets out from home to commit the crime. He would pick a woman most accessible.

MYTH: Alcohol may make even a sane man commit crime.
FACT: A man may commit a crime when drunk, but he's just as likely to commit the crime when sober, given the right circumstance. Alcohol doesn't make a criminal out of ordinary man....it just makes a criminal shed inhibition.

MYTH: Strangers commit such crimes.
FACT: 80% of such crimes are committed by people known to the woman - colleague, security, neighbour, delivery man, family friend, fiancee, husband, uncles, boyfriend, immediate family members, acquaintance, teachers, etc.

MYTH: You can beg a criminal to leave you by being "abala naari"
FACT: Begging to such a criminal only makes them feel more powerful and more likely to commit crime. Pretend to stay calm. Criminals like to see shame, pain, humiliation and above all fear in the eyes of their intended victim. If you show none, he might be defeated. Always try to stay in control of the situation. Don't bruise his ego, but reply calmly and firmly.

MYTH: You can remind them of morals and remind them of their mothers, sisters, daughters.
FACT: Such criminals HATE women and commit this crime to get a fake sense of "power" over women. Reminding them of the women in their life would only bring their hatred for women on the surface and they may become more violent.

MYTH: You can show "kindness" and be nice to them...they might leave you.
FACT: Such criminals lack empathy and compassion. You may think that by showing "kindness" you can win them over, since many stories in our childhood teach us that "goodness can triumph over evil"...in real life, you couldn't be more wrong. Criminals couldn't care less about how "nice" you are....they couldn't care less if you might be laying bleeding over a gutter. Your "niceness" may infact irritate them. They can't feel kindness or any positive emotion - period.

MYTH: Criminals are creepy people and I would immediately know when I meet them.
FACT: These people may come across as a "NICEST" people you've ever met. But they are devils in sheep's clothing. They are wonderful charmers, actors and manipulators. They would do ANYTHING to get control over you - act, cry, plead. MOST girls who become victims are very naive and criminals exploit this niceness, by acting very nice, they help them - to win their trust, while their mind may be plotting a very devilish plan. Most of these criminals have day to day "normal" life, apart from the time when they commit these crime. They may do the crime and go back to having a "normal" life again as if "nothing" happened. Madness takes over them when they commit crimes and they set out from home to commit the crime and consciously and subconsciously, they plot their crime - tar

target, place, etc, to get away from it.
Always be assertive. It's better to come across as a rude, heartless person than be sorry by being nice to a person and regret.

MYTH: If i am being stalked, I should go home and be safe.
FACT: NEVER lead a stalker to you home. If you are being followed....go to a crowded place and call for help.

MYTH: I can beat up anyone who attacks me.
FACT: Fighting really should be LAST option. A little attack enrages criminal and he might become more violent. But your body language should be confrontational that indicates that you are not afraid to fight back. You have a better shot of by survival by acting "crazy". A criminal wants an easy woman...not a crazy woman. Fake a seizure or heart attack. Try looking disgusting by vomiting or peeing. The grossness factor might deter him.

MYTH: You can talk "sense" to a criminal.
FACT: Criminals are messed up people - a combination of bad nature and nurture. You cannot talk sense to such people. Try anything and everything but don't let ever such people take control. They may act to cooperate with you, but they will attack you when you least expect it.

MYTH: If you are confronted by a gang, you are done for.
FACT: Gangrapes usually has an "alpha" male - the "leader" of the gang. You try your best to stop the first attacker, the rest of gang will also stop.

MYTH: All criminals who commit these crimes are the same.
FACT: There are 2 kinds - i) who would lurk in darkness and attack you unawares, when you least expect it and the moment you are guarded down - kind of like tigers who stalk a deer and attack it suddenly unawares. With such people, you have to scream, shout, attack immediately and do anything not to get overpowered.

If these criminals say "Don't yell, I won't hurt you...", yell with all your might. If they bring a weapon with them, chances are good that they would use it.

ii) People who might create a web of lies - they lure you away from your safe place and into their place where they can commit the crime. They might cry "Oh! my baby fell down, can you help me" and lure you away. They might act like they are injured and need help to lure you away from crowd. The only way you can save yourself from people like that, is by acting rude and cold. While there may be some genuine people who ask for help - it's really not worth the risk. And these people may come across as the nicest people you've met and their stories may look so genuine and they may be the people whom you know. Don't believe anything.
