university rankings
by mahesh lalwani on Oct 09, 2013 12:11 AM

theory of aggregation uses principal component analysis/ discriminant analysis/ factor analysis where eigen values can easily be manipulated by having more and more variables on same dimension. That is why Rankings are unstable.

worthless ranking
by indianguru on Mar 17, 2013 01:16 AM

this ranking is completely worthless and non-important. The real and important ranking is the QS World University and the Times Higher Education ranking where only 2 Indian institutions enter the list at #247 and #263....real shame

Ok we know who's Rediff, but who's Youth Incorporated?
by Krishna on Mar 04, 2013 09:37 PM

It seems to be a retirement solution for the ex-college professors. And they along with rediff feels that DU is one of the top ranking universities. Obviously it does not even worth reading.
This is the problem with all us as Indians. We do not want to face the reality. Please wake up, our education system is archaic which breeds only muggers are mediocracy.

Appreciation

Seems like I am among the few who seem to pleased that Indian universities have made it for this undergraduate ranking. Most people are just upset that Indian universities can be good. People have some sense of patriotism and be grateful that we are getting world recognition.

You guys seriously underestimate Indian universities. Do you realize that Indian universities score better because of low fees and hence greater student satisfaction? Also, Indian universities (top ones) give 100% placement rates whereas even Harvard cannot give that! Hence, it is possible that students give high scores to Indian universities like IIT etc.

Please be proud of your schools.

100% placement rates??

Where are most of these placements?

In local Municipalities public sanitation department?

And what is so great about universities that churn out desk jockeys who are only good at following orders and completely incapable of being innovative?

Universities are raked and should be raked on the quality of the student output, on the research carried out by the university and the students for betterment of technology and society. When was the last time this subcontinent had a noble Laureate or an advancement in technology that we can be proud of. Placements were/are a myth created by meritocratic institutes to attract students and subsequent increase of donations/fees whatever. They have biased our society with this propaganda and false advertisement, now the sole criteria for entry into a institution by 99% of the student population in our country is just based on placements. It is truly sad, that they have deprived an entire nation of its creativity and innovation. All we have been trained to do is kiss some white a$$es of western entrepreneurs.
