If it was also emphasized what way these institutes have contributed to India and world. How many scientists and researchers are there in these institutes. Only institute that comes to my mind otherwise is Indian Institute of Science which no place in this survey
Any survey for that matter is based on some pertinent parameters which should have a definite scientific approach, more so with institutions of higher learning. One of the parameter may be the long life of the institute. But for science colleges the most pertinent parameter should be the turn out of scientists of repute that graduated from out of the college, say for example, scientists of the college who are known all the world over for their significant contributions to science and not merely celebrities of cricket, politics, sports or ad-anchors and the likes.

That's exactly my point, Mr. Jain. Seems there's a bias in the rating for sure.

india Today's survey is totally biased towards Delhi. i am Sure presidency college or St. xaviers of Kolkata are better than some of the names here. Similarly, there might be siome other colleges in some other parts of India which are better

I know Xavier college is one of the best college in India. Our first president studied there. but my dear friend this is list of only top 10 college; if u see the whole list u may find xavier's name in top 15 or 20. The colleges mentioned in top 10 is indeed good colleges and u can't take credit from those college.

Dear Mr.Ranjan,no one is trying to take credit from anyone.I agree some of these Colleges are very good. However,I personally would have been happy to see name(s) of some prominent Colleges like St.Xavier's, Presidency, Loreto etc.....All of them are Centers of excellence & have received top ratings from NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) under UGC. To that extent I definitely expected their names to be in this list. That's all.Am all for merit based ratings & nothing else but that. Regards.
if you really want to study science, get any BSc degree with some effort and join the central university in Hyd, IIsc or IITs.
there are any number of colleges other than these in all parts of the country where you will find inspired teaching.
If you study in any of the colleges listed, you will most definitely leave science forever and become a gas bag or an artist like the alumni listed!
most of the alumni don't have anything to do with science, none of the colleges are not noted for any major scientific contribution in recent years. If these are rated based on preference for admissions, this study and these colleges highlight the distortion of the education system in our country.
The colleges in Delhi, all of them without exception, are good for legal and political careers, or journalism..or any career which needs grooming skills. The simian nature of most of the alumni proves that.

You are cent per cent right Sri Bharat ji, I fully endorse your views.
Neglect of pure science by successive government and the lack of job oppertunities available for pure science graduates are some of the reasons for our country in not producing world class scientists.
Also, the author is probably obsessed with glamour related personalities and rightly failed to give atlest one name of a scientist produced by these so called top colleges.
Rediff should become quality conscious, atleast, now onwards.
