chalukyas
by kabir on Jan 18, 2015 08:54 PM

chalukyas are nothing but, salunke, salunkye, solanki, salunki clans found in maharashtra, gujarat karnataka and andhra pradesh. They had share lineage with the satavahanas and yadavas(Jadhavs) of devgiri. Better history of these caves can be read in "Hardship and downfall of Buddhism" written by Giovanni Verardi.

Story of Badami Cave temple
by nagaraju on Jun 18, 2013 03:51 PM

The heading is misleading when the contents of the story is read. No where in the article there is a mention of cave temple, its date of construction or purpose let alone mentioning who has constructed it. The author should study the history of Karnataka first and then write the article. He may refer to well known historians like Suryanath Kamath before writing such important articles.

what? It was James Prinsep who named the script he found in various caves and ashokan pillars in 1873?, nothing to do with sister or brother of anyone. He asked many learned brahmins about the script none knew what it was, and as usual they gave vagues answers one of which was this script bramha may have invented so they James named it as brahmi. Read the book "Ashoka" by his Charles Allen.

northern karnataka
by Hitler Verdict on Jun 16, 2013 07:58 PM  | Hide replies

I have visited these places along with places. I must say that today's northern Karnataka being the center of entire south India, You will find all the dynasties originating here and then spread across... for example.. Chalukyas, Rashtrakootas, Kadambas, Suenas, Vijayanagar, Pandyas of Gokarna etc... Many more interesting places out there but currently the condition of northern Karnataka doesn't look good.

Early Pandyas are from the region between Udupi & Gokarna.. They ruled most of the coastal part of karnataka and northern kerala.. all of sudden during 197AC they disappeared. Later around 300AC it came into existence again in south TN,, around Madurai.. Both these Pandyas had fish as a symbol.. During the same time around 1st centuary AC..Chetus, Satavahanas and Kadambas were other dynasties who were gaining power in norhern karnataka, current MH and northern Andhra because of fall of Mauryan empire.. For me, south india means karnata country.. but that doesn't mean that kannada was spoken all around...
