Tie up with some music company maybe Saregama etc
by blogindia on Jun 10, 2013 10:17 AM  | Hide replies

Mr. Moloy, i am sure you now have an enviable collection of some of the rarest Indian compositions. Why dont you try talking to some music company like Saregama (HMV)or Polygram which may be interested in releasing your digitised versions with you getting some royalty on sales too. That would take care of your future income even if you convert all the LPs etc. The other option could be is to put these digitally converted compositions online through some popular portal where people can buy songs/album on payment. The compositions could be protected through DRM to prevent unauthorised copying

Thanks a lot fore your suggestions: in fact I have been toying with the first idea since quite sometime, only got more confident with the idea with your feedback: however the second idea might not be workable as due to copyright issues, I can share my digitized collections only with the actual owners of the songs like HMV, Polydoor etc! Nevertheless thanks a ton for your comments

Moloy, a Word of caution!

Never get into a business transaction with a North Indian without getting full legal help and getting all the details of the deal on paper and signed!

I know this word of caution is unnecessary in your case since you live in Delhi and must have dealt with these crooks on several occasions.

Just be careful.

Thanks Anuj for your word of caution, however I personally feel that my line of business is a rather unconventional type with my target audience consisting of some niche connoisseurs of music: hence the majority of my customers who are mainly senior citizens are quite different from what u are talking about!! However I faced a couple of such category also in course of my last 3 years of business, but when in your own business, I suppose you have to be prepared to face any kind of customers and in these cases also, I learned in the hard way!!!

You are right, Moloy!

You are relatively safe because your business does not serve the 'all and sundry'!

Keep up the good work.

You truly are an unusual person in today's 'use-and-discard' world!

It is very rare to see somebody do something so unconventional!

Thank u so much Anuj.....really feel so motivated when readers, most of whom I never know personally give such genuine comments on my work!! Goes on to reiterate that I was right in listening to my own heart 3 years back from today rather than listening to many of my critics who had branded this work as completely useless!!!

How can we help
by Vikrant Kumar on Jun 03, 2013 10:56 AM  | Hide replies

How can we help Moloy?

Unfortunately, we see people discarding LP collections of their parents and grand parents like garbage because it is "out-of-fashion"!

Can't we send him this "invaluable garbage" if we salvage it?

We should send Moloy any and all old LPs regardless of which genre they belong to!

Moloy is on his way to becoming the curator-owner of a one-of-a-kind museum.

Good job, Moloy!
