For people looking for easy careers, animation isnt for you!
by Vikas Bhatt on Jul 25, 2013 02:51 PM

The whole industry is in doledrums. There are no jobs out there. many fools from different streams like BCom,, Science, BA etc get blinded by false promises of animation schools of prospects in this line and they all pay fat sum of money for 2 years diploma courses expecting easy jobs and fast pay in animation that caters to Bollywood, ad industry and Hollywood. But India animation firms are all labor sweat shops hired to do heavy duty labor work in terms of volume of drawings and animations and there is no scope of growth. The animation studios bagged contracts and got work done cheap and made money. Soon many animation studios smelling big money opened shop. In doing so too many people opened shops and accepted work soon for lesser margins as US film companies benefitted from these labor practices and now they have all gone bust. Our industry cannot do independent projects as the skill sets don't match what artists in Hong Kong, Korea and China produce so this was bound to happen. The animation schools only want to make money and lie to kids about the rosy picture they sell but the harsh truth is the opposite. Animation is the toughest job in creative field and only those with in built passion and 5 years to slog without return can hope to succeed and make it big. Rest have no chance or will be used & dumped. Pay for starters is also very low. Dont waste your time looking for a fast buck because the neighborhood animation class says so.

work. Its better to quit job or starts looking for a job side by side. Never show passion at your work but always expects lot of money. Keep on blackmailing management but keep a focus on your salary then on second position your work comes.

Changing times...
by Ravi on Jul 25, 2013 06:16 AM

Movie Animation has lost to video gaming market big way. You really have to be good to survive in animation business.

Pixar studios has the best results in the animation business. But Pixar studios hired animation experts who were fired from Walt Disney after Walt Disney had similar financial crisis then (i.e. the 90's).

There is a huge gap here.
