Credit Card - Annual Charges
by suprabhatam on Jul 24, 2013 02:15 AM

I used to have SBI card. As it happens it was given to me by one young agent when I was on the verge of retirement in 2001. Since the agent insisted too much I accepted it. Very first year no annual fee was charged and I was assured that the fee will be waived every year on request. Things continued smoothly till 2012 when they refused to waive the fee, even though I had to go all the way to the Customer Care official personally in her office in SBI head office. In 2012 they refused to waive and allured me with other benefits -extra points etc. My record of payment was very clean as I never delayed the payment. Also the usage of card with me was not that heavy and I had the credit line of 75000/-.It was Gold card. I became adamant that I wont pay any fee and if they don't waive it, I am ready to surrender it. SBI card accepted the surrender instead of agreeing to waive the fee. I have no regrets.

Credit Card Charges

You should have added one more article that the customer should study his bill properly before paying up.
I had a very bad experience with Standard Chartered Bank.
The delayed the collection of cheque, despite having received much before time, according to the courier POD and charged late payment, finance charges and interests.
Took up with the bank and was promised these charges would be reversed.
Accordingly, paid the next bill, less these charges and they accounted it for partial payment and again finance charges and interests.
Now they say reversals and merchant refunds are not considered as payments received.
I dont understand their logic and they have not properly studied the case or responded accordingly.
Have now escalated the issue to banking Ombudsman.
This is the only way to bring these unscrupulous shylocks.
There could be many other customers who either pay up without going in detail of their bill or ignore small amounts or dont fight for their case.
I feel the best service providers in this sector are HDFC, Citibank and HSBC. They usually donot make these errors and will attend to the complaint if any and resolve it vary fast in consultation with the customer
