Those who engage in scietific reaseach lack appropriate technology. IIT and other technology students are nor interested in new scientific research yields. A common plateform for sharing is needed. And there should be real leadership to guide team efforts. This is what those who migrate to U.S. get easily in institutions and, therefore, begin giving results there. In India they have to all times keep thinking of how to get a better job. And search doesnt seem to end unless one is able to migrate. Why.

So agree with you on the necessity of common platform for ideating about innovations & inventions for the engineering students , including IIT is essential. Brand IIT & other engineering brands need to be developed & their successful products aggressively marketed. Otherwise, even the better ones are devoid of the recognition & the limelight the deserve. ( Not very motivating for aspirant inventors & innovators ).
what a joke. IIT'ians only innovation is that they land up in US with hefty paid jobs, and then start companies in making Govt and people fools and take advantage of cheap Indian 'poor' students from B colleges either in IT industry or social sector....!! name one innovation which IIT has given to India in terms of any product/machine...!!..worst is most of IITians end up managing jobs and not researchers...!!...Indian IT industry services clients and does not produce 'products' and softwares...!!

On Facebook, the bad experience of an IAS officer, Mr. Narayanaswamy is available. Pl read it. Also, pl recollect the fatal fate of Manjunath of Indianoil.
i feel we should see more innovations from private engg colleges too --- refer to SRM university students satellite ,this was possible since the faculty who guided the btech students was ex isro scientist
one-two decades ago ,many private engg colleges did not have - quality faculty ,some subjects course content not updated ,labs missing euiptment ,so we have to study on our own
but the current generation are lucky with INTERNET one could access simulated labs hosted on servers remotely live course content e-books ,course mtaerials etc
======= what india needs is SHIV NADAR UNIVERSITY in more numbers replacing bad private enng colleges (shut them down )
central govt plus UGC should provide incentives to make private engg colleges get good faculty (salaries ?) then we could see quality of engg eduction will improve ,ofcourse competing for the job is next step but the first step of making sure vital engg fundamentals are imparted is vitally important
so everytime ,there is debate bout eduction we should not debate quotas or standards ,rather we should debate i) how to make quality education accessible (primary ,engg etc )
most private engg are setup by politically connected like mla,mp or miniser
instead if we combine ppp model like govt plus corporates (hcl tech ,tcs ,isro ,bhel etc ) then we could impart quality education even in rural areas, this will make need for quotas to be phased out eventually
these are all computer centric! none is having practical utility in agriculture of in mechanical world to make living easier! In fact these are aimed for high end users! or the high society users! otherwise the proffessors and the sponsors wont approve it!

I have to agree with Srinivasan. Agriculture and basic Mechanical stuff that is used in India is so backward and devoid of innovation. Any little bit of innovation in these areas will bring incredible bang for the buck to the country and it's resources.

I guess you are right as regards the lack of significant innovation in agriculture. I asked him to have a relook at the Tum Tum tracker because it claims to create a mesh network that displays the time & route of the buses & their positions on Google maps , thus helping the commuters by taking out the unpredictability of having to wait for countless hours or knowing their routes. I felt this was more for the masses than high end users. But I do agree that innovations in the agricultural sector should be incentivized. A country that is proud of its young demographics should have the technological aptitude to be able to solve its problems by embracing technology at all levels & for all ;from farmers to pilots , traffic to national security.
innovations are plagiarisms. Every year they churn ut os many of these robot like devices. Other than robots they dont have any thing else in their mind.

not correct ,they are authentic why are u so negative ?
some of the above could be IIT incubations /final year BTECH projects ,so it is not necessary they will yield google search results? u seem to talk of consipiracy theories of plagrism ?

The reason why we are skeptical is because IITians have never come up with a product that has impacted anyone's life. Atleast there is not a single product they have made that I can remember which has an IIT stamp on it. I even remember a IIT Prof saying "Our strength is not in making products"..such is their attitude..Even the tablet they are making is a cheap rip off of an already existing design..Why cant they make Solar inverters, OS for Public Kiosks,Low cost long haul water transport wheel(an american even patented it)..They never thought of Android or Facebook or twitter, ebook reader, online stores..it was the americans who made it. I mean something useful that can be made into a product and sold..I am hardly aware of any corporate actually buying technology from IIT and making a product.. B/W I may be very wrong, and its just I am not aware..But if anyone knows anything useful made by IITians and actually mass produced, I would be interested to know..
