PROMETRIC FOR USMLE
by Aria on Jun 06, 2013 04:44 AM

Hi!
I am a USMLE step1-aspirant from India. I have been waiting to book a date for my exam at a prometric centre here in Chennai, INDIA. But the centre in my city seems unavailable for more than 5 months now. Initially, on calling the prometric centre, representatives told me that there is some technical error which needs to be sorted out. So I called them every week to re-check but got the same response. Then I found out online that "The six test centres operated by Everonn Systems India Ltd. located in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore Mumbai and Trivandrum have been closed at Prometric's direction for an administrative review"
"Prometric is looking for alternative venues within these affected cities to minimise inconvenience to candidates. We will make these new venues available on our registration and scheduling system as soon as they become available"
For past 2 months, the information the prometric representative told me was that the new centres are ready but they are "waiting for the client - ECFMG to authorize/sanction them as USMLE exam centres"
I hereby would like to know if this is true. On emailing ecfmg they said they have no control over opening or closing of prometric centres. Im still waiting for any update as to when thes centres will conduct USMLE exams.!!! It is causing alot of distress as I am waiting to book dates at a centre we are comfortable at.

if someone writes, "If I want to *give* a test in January, which test centres can I consider", he is not ready for GRE yet.

You can register for the GRE at any time. Albeit if he's not yet ready, you might have to wait till about 2 months to his specified date bacause it can be more expensive to reschedule a test date. So, be sure. I got the information here: http://www.gregmettoeflnigeria.com/toeflcentresinnigeria
