in a society where civic sense is rare (spitting on roads, throwing garbage/litter everywhere instead of in a dustbin, staring at people, invading private space by creeping right next to the person in front of you in a line... such etiquette which is much needed and highly appreciated by the people in the vicinity, will be hard to follow. as can be seen by some of the silly comments below. I refuse to go out with people who cannot respect my time and space and think it more impt to keep scrolling down their msgs or FB on their phone while they are with me. So, people, these are good tips. If you know what good manners are and value them, you will understand. If not, well, eventually it will be your loss.

When I read about those negative things you mentioned we do here, there flashed in my mind my recent visit to Australia(Canberra) to visit my sis & family.. where they do not spit on roads, do not throw garbage/litter everywhere instead of in a dustbin, do not stare at people, do not invade private space by creeping right next to the person in front of you in a line..(in fact there is a big gap between the person at the counter and the next one in the line..you can do the transaction in privacy and in comfort..next in line comes to the counter only when your transaction is finished and you move on and the guy/girl at the counter calls “next”)….During my stay I had a visit to the local Public Library to borrow some books with my sis’ card(you can borrow any number of books, CDs – free) It was self service, and I was standing at the bank of check out PCs, literally scratching my head wondering what to do, when a Lib Asst hurried up to help me check out..she took one good look at the card then at me, and asked, “Are you from Kerala?” Awestruck, I just dumbly nodded my head..she smiled and put one (very relevant, I felt) question to me in Malayalam..yes in Malayalam, would you believe it..she looked so un-Indian in her smart uniform..and what she asked was, “What do you feel about Australia?”….and I replied….with stars in my eyes, I think..”It’s a make believe world!”….and I meant it&#

Can't use it here, can't use it there, then where to use it. Looks like the writer hates mobile phones.
