His aim bought destruction
by subramanyam on Dec 18, 2013 05:14 PM  | Hide replies

You may admire him for his various characters. However, as mentioned above his thoughts, greed and uncontrolled emotions bought his destruction and his empire's. In Lanka there were crores of Rakshasaa's living happily. They say Lanka was full of gold, diamonds and all the wealth that Kubera had or more than him.
It is his uncontrolled emotions that made commit crimes. After the war with Ram neither Ravan survived, nor Lanka survived with glory. Both were burnt to earth.
Now you decide if this person deserves to be admired for bringing death and destruction.

Ravan's logic is 100% right but there is a age for eveything what we call 4 Asharams, had Ravan followed it, Indrajit would have been the king and not him. Also Laxman cutting of Soorpanakha's nose was the trigger point.

success increases pride and ego if it is not controlled by persueing and surrendering to an honest ideal like Ram .This increased ego creates mounting pressure to defend itand ultimately brings an end as happened with ravana.

Pride not Arrogance

That precisely sums up why we MUST NOT admire Ravana Mr. Neelkantan. That precisely sums up why we should LEARN & BEWARE of mindless & excessive use of any traits. The precise learning is EXCESS & ADDICTION of EVERYTHING is BAD (including Honesty - example Yudhishthir from Mahabharata)
The very definition of a Demon is MINDLESS WILD PASSION to pursue one's so-called talent to achieve invincibility over all & by destruction of others less priveliged as you.
PRIDE is very well if its Self-Belief but NOT ARROGANCE.
Ambition & Competitive spirit are very much necessary but doesnt give you the right to achieve it at the cost of destruction of others. Humans have progressed by the spirit of co-existence, intellect & team spirit & not the law of the Jungle.
You have full freedom to swing your arms in the air, BUT your zone finishes where MY NOSE BEGINS my dear.

Mr. Neelkantan seems to have gone overboard here. Ravan's life is a perfect example of a stupendously talented & extremely multi-talented personality being takenover by the Arrogance of "I" or 'AHAM'and all else 'BHASAM'!!
Infact thats precisely what Mahabali advised Ravan & he ignored all to his peril only!

i have read the book, but the book underplays the multi talents of ravana (veena etc) who comes from being a vanquished to control a big empire. I suppose large kingdoms are also built only with such emperor's at the helm. Ashoka excesses (kalinga) are also known. we all of prefer an utopia with a benevolent ruler for all to love and cherish. without lawlessness. but then one smaller sized ayodhya it was possible, especially where three mother's watched over a Son's reign and all the sages presided. Rama seemed to have none of the south, he gave it off to vibishana. Lots to learn from these stories in modern day. No lawlessness anywhere please, including excesses over women. or a federal state on unitary platform. so much of advice of not keep sita captive went unheard . but rama and sita had such a tough time , never had a great time together despite their love for one another.

Devil quoting scripture. People often get confused between law and justice. Legal and moral. The indian society is struggling with corruption because of this.

That's what the great OSHO taught everybody.. "We need not suppress our negativity, we can just turn our negativity into positivity".. Turn the manure into the essence of flowers!
