Mande -- please correct this:

Research shows that less than half of about five million students who graduate from universities each year are employable for various reasons.

It should have been unemployable rite?

Why do you do this?

Expect error free articles from Rediff staff even if the article is about English!

Had there been only one medium of instruction i.e. English, there would have been equal opportunity for all. What I understand is, it was a well thought out ploy wherein a separate class was created which wud serve the class that knows English. In our country those who speak English or know it are considered to be educated and sophisticated and those who are less fortunate ones and have fallen into the trap of either vernacular or Hindi as their medium of instruction are considered as uneducated unless they hold a very high post. In China, Japan the official work and the scientific, medical and technical knowledge is imparted in their own language but in India its still riding the crutches of English hence this miserable plight and class divide.Learning a language in later part of life is definitely a major challenge and not all can succeed in it.

Gone were the days when people use to consider fluent english speakers as literate.
Now everybody knows the difference between literacy and education: Literate person need not to be educated but educated person is always considered as literate!

You are right!

Majority of educated, English speaking Muslin people continue to behave and live like wild animals even after being educated and learning how to speak in English!

There is a psychological block against this language in the mind's of most of the people who try to learn to speak this language later in their lives!

The biggest problem learner's have is that many words in English are pronounced differently from the way they are written!

In Almost all Indian languages, the pronunciation matches the way the words are written!

To add to the problems of learning to speak this language is English Grammar, which can be very confusing!

Then there is the political angle too. Hindi Heartland hates English and it was OK till India was a government subsidy state!

But now if you can't speak English, you are not going to go very far in life career-wise!

The only solution to this problem is that those who know correct pronunciation must help others as if their brothers and sisters rather than showing pompous attitude

Are you following your own advice?

Your English looks good enough to qualify you to help your "brothers and sisters"!

If you are not helping them then you are as bad if not worse than those with the "pompous attitude"!
