Next Harvad ?
by prem mir on Apr 28, 2013 05:10 PM

A good many of the private universities listed in this article are run with a profit motive even if they are "Not For Profit" organizations.

As regards teaching, one has to realize that the phrase " excellent teaching universities" are a farcical misnomer meant to hide the fact that they do not possess a good research base. It has to be appreciated that only creators of knowledge can be excel as competent instructors of that knowledge. It is beyond the reach of an of India's privately run universities to even dream of becoming the next Harvard. Not that they even want to dream of becoming a Harvard for the dreamers there are aim to get rich !!

regarding world class universities.
by ajit pethe on Apr 22, 2013 06:48 AM

the writer may be from the backward class. he is talking about the Brahmonic mindset. But most of the Brahmins having the rich legacy of intellectuality and creativity. they follow the govt. family program and keep their population low which enable them to learn more. These so called backward class never respond to family planning program in a proper manner. And now their leaders are calling the reqairement of masses. Govt also allow them entries in prime institutions and then promotion on cast basis instead of quality and performance. So a person who enrolled and promoted to head of the dept. on cast basis, not able to deliver his potentials in a proper manner. First ask govt to change their policies and start cost based education. Open new govt colleges rather then allowing pvt. political and industrial institutions in education sector. and let pvt and govt decide for scholarships based only on merit. not based on race or cast.

A premier Institute is on its course to becoming the "NEW MODEL HARVARD" (better still will be 'NEW MODEL UNIVERSITY')integrating what India gifted to the world in terms of its cultural, moral, social and spiritual ethos with avant-gardist theory and practices of modern developments.

No more 'Next Harvard' .. 'Next Apple' ... and the likes. Terminologies as old as hills with servile attitude !!!

India shall have its 'brand' etched in the curriculum and practices and remain SPECIAL.

Systematic change in education system can lead to improvement
by sivanantham on Apr 18, 2013 11:33 AM  | Hide replies

Our education system is giving mostly importance to memorizing some paragraphs and writing exams rather than doing more experiments and thinking in creative manner that can lead to innovation. In order to be successful, we(mostly younger generation) need to think differently in progressive way and bring drastic development in our education and research. Let us hope we will do our best near future.
In India, universities are getting lesser funding and facilities including instruments etc. than national research institutes. In fact, universities (where one can get more outputs in doing research) have more numbers of students. However, research institutes (where lesser outputs in the context of research) are having lesser number of students but more number of employees (called as scientist).
In these ways we are wasting our money.
We are following western culture in terms of bad things such as drinking alcohols, wearing modern dresses etc.,
But we are NOT following western culture in terms of their good things such as work culture, following rules, way of thinking etc., These are the main reasons for inability to become developed country.

In our education there is no place for moral, ethics, values...If we teach Holy Bh.Gita, Holy Bible or Holy Quran it will be called religion and hence communalism..Are telling children to follow Truth, call of one's inner voice, follow the path of goodness and non-vilence communalism...Truth is for all not for any community..If we follow some values, the standard of education will automatically become better. Money making clerk making , manager ,making education should change...in its place man making education should come...No rape will take place anywhere..Even if takes place it will not be systems/educations' failure but of psychological disorder which can be treated in a mental asylum

We need to improve schools first
by Balaji on Apr 18, 2013 10:13 AM  | Hide replies

The foundation for these Universities are not the buildings. But good students and even better teachers. We need to improve our school education first before worrying about universities. Right now in the name of international schools, they are only commercializing rather than improving the learning abilities. Providing AC room and projectors in class is not improving education.
