Enggs are not to supposed to be
by swapnil patil on Jan 21, 2013 09:51 AM

Contrary to NASSCOM opinion, engg grads are not supposed to be industry ready for software coding.
Engg is a difficult science to study and in the past all industries used to spend time with training new grads and grooming them into industry roles.

These days software companies are looking for coders who they can put on the job with "soft skills" and all that. well, there is some investment they have to do in customising what raw talent they get, there are no free lunches. communication and problem solving skills need to be brought out through training and mentoring.

I blame it on the colleges.
by Gotya on Sep 18, 2012 03:11 PM

Currently most of the engineering colleges are managed by Politicians instead of educated people.
A 3rd grade politician is dictating rules to a Phd Principal in most of the engineering colleges.
Most of the staff hired in the colleges is based on the ability of the employee to fetch and manipulate votes.
The result is those people who are not fit for technical education are rendering it to the students and calling themselves as teachers.

Lack of innovation and inability to transform theory to practice.
by anand van on Sep 16, 2012 03:52 PM

Inability to transform theory to practice is seen in almost all engineering graduates mainly because of lack of industrial exposure.and lack of innovation prevent them from leading the industry.this pastern is common in almost all colleges ranging from IIT to private ones.

True reasons
by Manish Jaiswal on Sep 16, 2012 01:59 PM  | Hide replies

I have been working as a self-employed Computer operator (DTP) for the last 7 years and have typed more than 250 dissertations, theses, project work, training reports etc. for the students of every field be it Medical, Engineering, IT, Academic, Social work etc. I have observed for about seven years that in fact mostly the students have come in their present fields because of being inspired by their parents rather than because of their own interest. This has lead to their disinterest in their fields of study. When they come to me to get their theses, reports, dissertations etc. computer typed, they mostly bring some old training reports, project works, old theses or dissertations and simply ask me to copy and type. This means they do not do their research work by themselves. If not, they come to me with Internet files saved and ask me to compile the text of these files so as to form a report etc. When they are not serious towards learning, how can they become employable as this copy, or paste option will never help them in their employment!

Industry doesnt understand Engineering
by swapnil patil on Sep 15, 2012 10:28 AM

contrary to the usual viewpoint of Engineering course not being in line with Industry, it is tragic to note that the Roles that industry offers for engineers are not usually Engineering roles.

A majority of Engineers are placed in supervisory or skilled labour roles or even for that matter managerial role instead of actually working on Engineering. (most of the Coding software isnt engineering).

it is also pertinent to note the highly successful Engg grads who go on to do MS and do good engineering work in US.(where it is possible to pursue technical career options)

simple truth.
by carazon on Sep 14, 2012 11:00 AM

The simple truth is that our country is overpopulated and the high and mighty don't think of the other Indians as their equals. Fresh graduates(not just engineers) are made to work in conditions that will be considered as slavery in most developed countries. Is it because of the "colonial mentality" or because of the excessive respect that we Indians sometimes give to hierarchy I don't know. In developed countries there are hi fliers we seem to know everything but most people take it slow and easy. Training departments train the people and even in small companies which cannot afford training facilities ample time is given to the people to learn their job. But of course in overpopulated India the young graduate cannot afford to ask for such liberties. The employer will simply kick him out and a hundred thousand others will line up for the job.

Every engineering student is capable for job but..........
by ajit more on Sep 13, 2012 06:27 PM  | Hide replies

Engineering is one of most difficult course than any other graduation course.if you completed it with right attitude you win half race. But now in next half race you will face most of the corporate business men who run their businesses by blaming you as not ready for job as these business men invested money in training centers and consultancies. So they told you that you will get job after completing some post graduation programs from these private training centers or consultancies which have tie up with companies.
So instead of this thing, detect your capabilities, abilities, strong points, work on to improve them and then go ahead for your goal.
