Indian universities can never ever come in top 10 or 20,the present technology that used from communication ,medicine to information technology were created in the doors of western universities.Indian education system only produces service engineer,doctors and other professionals, there is no scope for invention ,innovation ,discovery in Indian education system , Indian system is based on degree, route learning and memory , there is no scope for imagination and creativity, even after producing 8 lakh engineers not even a single invention has been out thats used around the world.

Please don't criticize. first find out the problems and try to solve it. Followings are problems as far as I came to know. But many talents(from IITs) are going to settle in US and western countries. In India, universities have less number of facilities(Instruments etc.,) as compared to national research institute. With too much facilities, people(not all) who work as scientist in research institute they do nothing(every day just they go for tea many times, talk some thing and come back home). However, many master and phd students in universities are suffering without sufficient facilities. If universities would have same facilities like research institutes, then our universities could have reached top position. In addition, most of the Profs in India trouble the students. These are the main problems for the failure of Indian universities.
wehave the best knowledge on several of these subjects but alas no one has announced a Indian Nobel Prze on these subjects.It is time we rerate our capabilities

We understand only Rorka, and we get college degree for that only. Education starts at infancy, your first teachers are your parents. If they spoil you, no matter where you go, you are doomed.
Nothing alarming. If we look at the top Universities, all of them offer programmes related to Medicine, Engineering, Law and Arts & Science whereas our systems concentrate any one of these disciplines only. A ranking system which revolves around all the disciplines of the eduction may not be a ideal one for Indian Institutions / Universities. If compare, may be, engineering alone, sure that couple IITs will find a place in the list.

There should be some reservation in this list. I think tomorrow Our leaders will raise this issue in parliament and government will pass the bill. Our IITs have the rank starting from 205. This list is an eye opener for us. Our same institution were in Top 50, just few years before but courtesy to Indian politics, we are kicked out from 200 and day is not far away when we will find IITs will come after 500.

shhhh... don't say anything about IIT people. Those are the sacred super-humans from India who have all the knowledge in this world. Trust me, last time I got involved in a discussion about accounts with a guy and almost convinced him that he is wrong. I have to take a step back when he took his final weapon out; saying, "You should think twice before arguing with people. I am IITian, I know things better." :)

Even in engineering IITs wud not come in top 100..Quality of research in IIT are very poor.. just becos the entrance is tough doesnt mean the institution is great..Quality of Profs.. students doing research etc are very poorin IIts..

who is a minority? the 20% muslims, or 15% tribals, or 15% scheduled castes, or 5% each of farmers, potters, toddy tappers, milkmen, and other backward castes, or 5% christians, or 5% banias, or 10% other forward castes or 5% brahmins?
