It can be done

bengalis like to teach,it can still be done if some well meaning Bengali takes over control.Amartya sen is a good choice but he is now old and lacks the energy level. Initiative has to be taken by the WB govt, they should not expect any help from KapilSibbal

Time is different

During the time of Tagore famous politicians like Samuel Montague ( British Foreign Minister), Ramsey Macdonald ( British Prime Minister),came to Santi Niketan to teach. These kind of people do not exist.

Thus, Viswa Bharati should advertise for its senior posts and for professor internationally and pay international salary ( like some Chinese Universities); then only it can be international.

Why there is no Russ Bhavan, when Russia is our eternal friend, and only in Russian language the entire works of Tagore was translated ( as instructed by Stalin to poet Anna Akhmatova)??

No other country did so much as USSR and russia did.
How do you get the chance to go to russia? Only the South Indians with India government scholarship or rich Indian who cannot get admission to any Indian universities to study medicines now-a-days can to Russia. This is the reason of very bad quality students from India, Russians may have very low opinion regarding Indian students.

Otherwise I have always received good receptions from the Russians, much much better than what I have received from the British or Americans.

Dalai Lama
by neeraj goyal on Sep 09, 2012 07:24 AM

I think we know, how things go bad if you put an Economists at the helm. Also, I think Amartya Sen has become more capitalist. I would root for Dalai Lama, instead to become its chair.

restoration of legacy
by RajPSingh on Sep 08, 2012 10:19 PM  | Hide replies

When we were given freedom, we all perhaps said to ourselves, we will build our nation a place \'where the mind is without fear and the head is held high....\' But soon we forgot everything .... even our hero whom Father of the nation, Gandhiji used to call \'Gurudev\'. The concerned brought to the fore in \'the world no longer calls at Tagore\'s Visva Bharati\' tells a very pathetic tale of such a plce which was founded perhaps by the nobel laureate with a vision to provide a place \'Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection. Let us pledge to resurrect the legacy and offer a tribute to this selflees \'Gurudev\'.
