Comic books were great reading..

I remember nostalgically the small black and white comic books which used to come under "Battle Picture Library" and "War Picture Library" series. They made most interesting reading in childhood days. Amar Chitra Katha comics were also very sought after. Other than these, Phantom and Mandrake comics were also very enjoyable. Then of course we had the extraordinary "Tintin" and "Asterix" series which are still visible nowadays - but extremely costly.

Joy of reading printed comic books is a separate experience which this generation of children have unfortunately missed. The raid of television into our houses is one of the main culprits. Television has brought the world into our houses, but in the process we have shrunk our homes.

Well, time moves on, attitudes change, technology makes our lives - better or worse. We have to accept the march of TIME.

Well said Rajib. Well I feel this generation children are unfortunate as there world is limited to T.V(Idiot Box) round the clock and they miss physical activity via outdoor games. Surely they would have enjoyed outdoor games much more then wathing TV but again the play grounds in cities are missing because of demand for more n more residential houses etc..

No mention of Indian Comics

Would have appreciated if the writer had acknowledged the 'presence' of equally (if not more) influential hindi comics from the stables of Raj, Diamond, Manoj etc. Do you really think we would be unable to identify Dhruv, Nagaraj, Ram-Raheem, Bankelal, Fighter Toads, Chacha Choudhary, Saboo, Billu, Pinki, Parmanu, Doga and others?
