It is a pity you have no idea about Gandhi...Gandhi did not want partition..Lal bahadur though he was simple and honest his unnecessary introduction of hindi on southern sates ruined temporaily the unity of india...There was no need to force a language when so many other burning problems were there...his deciswon was responsible for the continuous failure of congress subsequently...

(2)It is a shame that Lal Bahadur Shastri's birthday is being ignored.An objective assessment of his 19 month rule can be made on the basis of recorded history.India faced unprecedented drought soon after he took over and he had to plead for severe austerity in cereal consumption.He was very cautious in taking decisions and was dubbed "a prisoner of indecision".When Pakistan attacked India he allowed our troops to cross the border and march towards Lahore.Historians agree that the 3 week war was a draw,neither side winning.By agreeing for UN tribunal to settle Rann of Kutch issue and Soviet mediation in 1965 war,he averted a lot of bloodshed. (3)As per constitution Hindi was to become official language on 26th Jan 1965.In the 15 years since 1950 no steps were taken to implement the gradual introduction of Hindi.In 1965 Hindi zealots at the centre started sending letters to states in Hindi,banishing English completely.South India went up in flames and Congress party received a death blow in Tamilnadu.It was Shastri's misfortune that he was PM at that time. (4)Shastri was easily duped by Sirimavo Bandaranayake in the matter of Srilanka Tamils.After signing an agreement favourable to Lankans,she placed the Tamils in a separate register!

Gandhi kept national interest aside because both jinna and nehru were adamant to become first PM of free India. Gandhi's blindness towards nehru and failure to control him was the biggest reason for partition.

Gandhi was not blind about nehru...Nehru was the best PM we could have had...He was not a parochial person...so he was acceptable for entire india...His foresight on industires,education and agriculture is what we are seeing today...

Nehru wasn't the first choice among the cong party leader to be the PM. In fact, Sardar Patel was chosen by the party as a candidate. But it was gandhi ji's pressure that sidelined all the decisions to make nehru. So the point is what prompted (or forced) gandhi ji to take such a decision?

No doubt Gandhi ji's was a great inspiration and leader for people of India against Britishers. But when his leadership was most required to keep India united post partition, Gandhi ji disasterously failed to making either of the two leaders jinnah or nehru obey him. if only even one of the these two leaders had obeyed gandhi, India wouldn't have been partitioned.
Beaing a great human being and inspiration for freedom, and being a failure to unite two leaders are the two different sides of this Iconic person.
