Numerous Innovative ideas have come up in the minds of our young School Children. The budding Scientists make us feel proud. One girl suggests fitting an extra pair of retractable steps in cycle rickshaw so that old people can get in easily. Another innovative young fellow suggests that extra pedals may be attached, with passenger seat reduced to one, so that, the passenger ( Mostly a white collared person ) can or may help out with cycling and share the burden. Brilliant, I must say. Years back, I remember seeing a BUD Spencer and Terence Hill Movie, wherein Bud Spencer ( The fat one ) lands up in Hongkong. He is forced to hire a cycle rickshaw. The cycle ricksha puller is struggling and unable to cycle because Bud Spencer's weight is too much and the puller is a frail creature. Bud Spencer gets out and pulls the rickshaw puller on to the passenger's seat and Bud merrily cycles the rickshaw to his destination. Also, when he gets down,Bud Spencer does not forget to pay up the fare. Many states have taken welfare measures to rid this evil of cycle rickshaw. Some Govts have provided these rickshaw pullers alternatives like Auto rickshaws at subsidized rates or on very soft loans with subsidies. When will our Children's eyes open themselves up to these social ills. Which child can provide a remedy for the suffering of this struggling class of Rickshaw pullers ????

Keep up the good work , Arnab ! Shri A.P.J. Abdul Kalam tells children to dream big and realize their dreams for the upliftment of this country. Do keep in touch ( on the board ) or you can send messages to me through Rediff forum . Bye !
This article needs a whole lot of context. Like, how does one define innovation?
Other than that, the idea that could be considered remotely close to innovative is the 2nd grader's idea of mechanically operating a ceiling fan by means of en external windmill.
Pretty demoralizing though that of the 15K submissions, only these bubbled up.

Indians have to know the difference between invention and "Just better use" of anything. All these ideas are not inventions, they are merely a better use or a better version of already 'being used' items..

Kolkata has gone still further....there is one way traffic in one direction upto 2 pm, after 2pm the traffic has to move one way in opposite direction. Quite confusing for new drivers and visitors to the city, the locals are used to it. Local innovations can be quite interesting, good as long as they work !!
Re: This is a very practical idea and followed in Kochi also.
