When I finished my fourth year of mechanical engineering in 1999, I had 23 arrears because of communication problem and scared about English. Then I concentrated on arrears cleared everything in 2001, during those days I did CAD/CAM course and joined in the same institute for 1000rs salary. Worked for a year, and slowly jumped many companies and after 10years now I am well settled with 16Lpa salary. I really don't know what I learn in my Btech, but I know what I did and learn in that training institute, and I am surviving with that.

My First salary was Rs. 5200 when I graduated in 2002 from the prestigious Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology. Even though I had graduated from a premier institute and had a good grades, it was recession time and I had to take up the job even at a low salary. However looking back, it has proven to be a blessing in disguise, as the experience was really wonderful..

Same with me. I too graduated from a reputed government engineering college and due to recession time started on Rs. 3800 only.. now it’s better. in the process I learned that it’s the economy who rules the fresher’s job market..

Rs. 5200 back then was not so bad for a fresher. But I understand your point. Looks like we are the same age.
My first salary was Rs 600/- Per month, way back in May 1981, with Raasi Cements Ltd, as Graduate Engineer Trainee. I bought a good pen for my Dad, and a saree for my mom. There after I paid my monthly messing bill, which was just about 100/-. I may be earning 300 times more than that today, but there is no happiness as much as what I got with my first salary and the spending I did with it. I will cherish those memories for ever in my life.
