lot of exposure and support is needed to become entrepreneur.

I personally feel with the kind of exposure, faculty support and the access to the resources one gets at top institutions is the reason why many students get that kind of confidence to refuse high paying jobs. For e.g. at IIM RBI governor will be a regular lecturer or the Finance Minister. There students get the chance to network with the most powerful people of India and World which is impossible for another student in a less known B-school. So it is a perfect example as Malcom Gladwell has mentioned in his book "Outliers". In his book he says why some of the rich people are rich. For eg Bill gates got access to use computers from early morning for few hours regularly at a time when computers were so huge that they were of the size of rooms. It was a luxury. Its like you getting a chance to go to NASA everyday and learn about various new discoveries. Finally all large industrial houses are looking for new businesses to survive in future. This is the new idea factory machine where if they support them and groom them would help them. For them financing few crore rupees is not a big deal. But if it works they will buy out that venture and make that person its employee who would be very happy because his 100 generations would not see that kind of money. All students from any institute is at par, only thing differs is what environment he lives in. What knowledge, exposure he gets. After all when we were born we didn't even knew our name. We learnt everything here.

Amit, your points are very valid. Some people are lucky enough to get good breakthroughs. But however that doesnt have to be a weakening effect on anyone who wants to become an entrepreneur.
Sometimes we are are own enemies. We program our mind to find reasons on why we shouldnt become entrepreneur and have our reasonings for it. Like the ones you have now. So logically it makes sense to have a secured job and not to risk it and leave business to people who are fortunate and lucky.
I however feel that you really dont need luck/breakthrough for starting a business. You need to find a gap and fulfill with it with a product or service.
You just need to back yourself and go against the tide and you will find a different world.
You are right saying exposure and support needed. Howeve there are tons of people with both and still are employed. Its about risk to reward ratio. Are you willing to risk time and money
One thing I can promise you that there are tons of opportunities.

If you start to analyze too much then you will miss the boat.

Thinking of doing biz is a torture, doing biz is simpler

To execute any idea one needs money. The bigger the idea the bigger the money needed. Now when one has a idea but is not sure how does he go about executing it or how to raise resources? Because money makes things moves fast. Lets say you want to set up solar power plant. Idea is great but you need lots of resources. And to raise resources you've to be very very clear as to how will you go about raising it. Will you talk to banks, private equity to invest in it. There are lots of expenses before you make your blueprint ready before you approach any bank or private equity. Many students are not able to make a sound project report (again knowledge, exposure and environment) which will kill his idea. A consultant would charge few lakhs for it. Does average indian student has that deep pocket? Passion alone is not enough. Our system will kill your enthusiasm, as at every stage you will need money to bribe. You will need to counter competitors which are deep pockets than yours and they would like to own your project before it takes off. If you don't sell to them they will sabotage it. Being an entrepreneur is like doing intra day trading in equity. You should be ready to loose money. And if you do loose then you should not be on road. If you think then you will find a job then in interview what will you say. They will not accept your passion or that you tried at least or took that risk. They will think that you are not capable. Else why would you've needed job.

do you have enough money to work on other's ideas? you must be having a great risk appetite but the idea should be yours to be an entrepreneur and to run an enterprise.

MBA has nothing to do with entrepreneurship
by Girish Venkatachalam on May 15, 2012 12:09 PM

MBA degree or any degree will not help you run a business; I would imagine that MBA from top colleges would put you in the same plane as a top engineering degree as it trains you for hard work and exposes you to good people but other than that business is a ballgame that you have to learn on your own with discipline, hard work and sacrifices which no one can teach

Anyone trying to start their own business should start with something that requires low investment and risk like MLM. Only if you can prove your worth selling a product should you ever attempt a business.
