Women's dignity is not at all connected to Economic condition
by Devendra Rara on Mar 12, 2012 03:35 PM

How is dignity relevent to the economic or rather socio-econimic condition of women. Does it mean that well to do women do not have issues related to dignity. If half the women in this country become economically independent, will it safegaurd their dignity ?
My response has many questions which are ignored by the author. Everything today is very complicated and inter-connected with each other. The author has taken a very simplistic view ignoring that there is no direct connection. Women's dignity and her socio-economic status is a matter of discussion and it needs action. There is no doubt about it. But one is not the solution for the other.
We should look at them as distinct issues. To be fair this is not an easy topic and there is no simple solution for it.

Women and their Dignity
by Vidhya Srinivasan on Mar 12, 2012 02:38 PM

The struggle for economic and social independence seems to be waning slightly but by and large society still controls simple things like what a woman should wear, how she should sit, stand, the games she can play the friends she can have and the timings that she should maintain while going out.Even today in leading educational institutions there is a taboo about what women should wear and this holds for teachers too. While girls are told to wear a dupatta or an odni women teachers are expected to wear sarees only. This does not seem right and although there is no written rule about it you are the cynosure of all eyes if you do not comform.

Dignity of Women
by arungopal agarwal on Mar 11, 2012 10:53 AM

Woman in India in general are respected and live with dignity, all zealous is kept by woman vs. woman not by men except when his manliness is challenged(exceptions). Woman who are insulted or not seen with dignity barring in few cases social disorders-woman must look within themselves what lacks with them.

Dignity is in mind to be carried out physically.

Long lasted values of life by Men is being practiced blindly without reconciliation is the real threat to the women's empowerment in all walks of life.
Scientific study is the only solution, supported by the statutory obligation by the State, which is missing due to the mental attitude and nothing else.
Gender difference in appearance is not the real cause of misusing the other, the eagerness to posses without reasonable effort to win over the confidence of the other, which is a most Civilized approach absent in Today's life has to be restored with multiple approach which is time consuming though out of reach to the intelligentsia.

Women's Dignity

Today for women the concept of women's dignity is that they should be able to walk naked in the streets while nobody should even bat an eyelid. That is their ultimate symbol of women's liberation from a male dominated patriarchial society.

Madam ... Can you please define dignity? If your definition of dignity is that men should break coconuts in front of women when they walk on the roads exp0sing half of their flesh, I think you will not be able to get it ever, neither in our country nor in any other country of the world. If you think that males in western country do not pass 0bscene comments on women, you are absolutely mistaken. Just visit any western countries' forums or chat rooms and you would easily understand what I'm saying.

Why always cry about dignity of women, what about the men? Just because women cry and shout on everything, they are being heard, while men silently tolerate all sufferings, dedicate their dreams, savings and life for the benefit of women are ignored?
Men contribute >80% to country's GDP and almost all the risky and dangerous jobs are done by men but what they have received in return?
Often, for female infanticide, the elderly females of the family are involved, so why only blame men? On the question of sexual assault and eve teasing, it is similar to crossing a road on red signal. The rule allows you to blindly on a road on a red signal, but you have to be careful while crossing, because it is you who are going to suffer for someone else mistake or crime.
